Psalm 95

Praise to the Lord, and Warning against Unbelief.

95 O come, let us (A)sing for joy to the Lord,
Let us shout joyfully to (B)the rock of our salvation.
Let us (C)come before His presence (D)with [a]thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him (E)with [b]psalms.
For the Lord is a (F)great God
And a great King (G)above all gods,
In whose hand are the (H)depths of the earth,
The peaks of the mountains are His also.
[c]The sea is His, for it was He (I)who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us (J)worship and bow down,
Let us (K)kneel before the Lord our (L)Maker.
For He is our God,
And (M)we are the people of His [d](N)pasture and the sheep of His hand.
(O)Today, [e]if you would hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as at [f](P)Meribah,
As in the day of [g](Q)Massah in the wilderness,
“When your fathers (R)tested Me,
They tried Me, though they had seen My work.
10 “For (S)forty years I loathed that generation,
And said they are a people who err in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
11 “Therefore I (T)swore in My anger,
Truly they shall not enter into My (U)rest.”

Psalm 88

A Petition to Be Saved from Death.

A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director; according to Mahalath Leannoth. A [a]Maskil of Heman [b]the Ezrahite.

88 O Lord, the (A)God of my salvation,
I have (B)cried out by day and in the night before You.
Let my prayer (C)come before You;
(D)Incline Your ear to my cry!
For my (E)soul has [c]had enough troubles,
And (F)my life has drawn near to [d]Sheol.
I am reckoned among those who (G)go down to the pit;
I have become like a man (H)without strength,
[e]Forsaken (I)among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom You remember no more,
And they are (J)cut off from Your hand.
You have put me in (K)the lowest pit,
In (L)dark places, in the (M)depths.
Your wrath (N)has rested upon me,
And You have afflicted me with (O)all Your waves. [f]Selah.
You have removed (P)my acquaintances far from me;
You have made me an [g](Q)object of loathing to them;
I am (R)shut up and cannot go out.
My (S)eye has wasted away because of affliction;
I have (T)called upon You every day, O Lord;
I have (U)spread out my [h]hands to You.

10 Will You perform wonders for the dead?
Will (V)the [i]departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah.
11 Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave,
Your faithfulness in [j]Abaddon?
12 Will Your wonders be made known in the (W)darkness?
And Your [k]righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But I, O Lord, have cried out (X)to You for help,
And (Y)in the morning my prayer comes before You.
14 O Lord, why (Z)do You reject my soul?
Why do You (AA)hide Your face from me?
15 I was afflicted and (AB)about to die from my youth on;
I suffer (AC)Your terrors; I am [l]overcome.
16 Your (AD)burning anger has passed over me;
Your terrors have [m](AE)destroyed me.
17 They have (AF)surrounded me (AG)like water all day long;
They have (AH)encompassed me altogether.
18 You have removed (AI)lover and friend far from me;
My acquaintances are in darkness.

Psalm 91-92

Security of the One Who Trusts in the Lord.

91 He who dwells in the (A)shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the (B)shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My (C)refuge and my (D)fortress,
My God, in whom I (E)trust!”
For it is He who delivers you from the (F)snare of the trapper
And from the deadly (G)pestilence.
He will (H)cover you with His pinions,
And (I)under His wings you may seek refuge;
His (J)faithfulness is a (K)shield and bulwark.

You (L)will not be afraid of the (M)terror by night,
Or of the (N)arrow that flies by day;
Of the (O)pestilence that [a]stalks in darkness,
Or of the (P)destruction that lays waste at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But (Q)it shall not approach you.
You will only look on with your eyes
And (R)see the recompense of the wicked.
[b]For you have made the Lord, (S)my refuge,
Even the Most High, (T)your dwelling place.
10 (U)No evil will befall you,
Nor will any plague come near your [c]tent.

11 For He will give (V)His angels charge concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.
12 They will (W)bear you up in their hands,
That you do not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will (X)tread upon the lion and cobra,
The young lion and the [d]serpent you will trample down.

14 (Y)Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will (Z)set him securely on high, because he has (AA)known My name.
15 “He will (AB)call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in [e]trouble;
I will rescue him and (AC)honor him.
16 “With [f]a (AD)long life I will satisfy him
And [g](AE)let him see My salvation.”

Praise for the Lord’s Goodness.

A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is (AF)good to give thanks to the Lord
And to (AG)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To (AH)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (AI)faithfulness [h]by night,
[i]With the (AJ)ten-stringed lute and [j]with the (AK)harp,
[k]With resounding music [l]upon the (AL)lyre.
For You, O Lord, have made me glad by [m]what You (AM)have done,
I will (AN)sing for joy at the (AO)works of Your hands.

How (AP)great are Your works, O Lord!
Your [n](AQ)thoughts are very (AR)deep.
A (AS)senseless man has no knowledge,
Nor does a (AT)stupid man understand this:
That when the wicked (AU)sprouted up like grass
And all (AV)who did iniquity flourished,
It was only that they might be (AW)destroyed forevermore.
But You, O Lord, are (AX)on high forever.
For, behold, Your enemies, O Lord,
For, behold, (AY)Your enemies will perish;
All who do iniquity will be (AZ)scattered.

10 But You have exalted my (BA)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have [o]been (BB)anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has (BC)looked exultantly upon [p]my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The (BD)righteous man will [q]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (BE)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (BF)Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish (BG)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [r](BH)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [s]full of sap and very green,
15 To [t]declare that (BI)the Lord is upright;
He is my (BJ)rock, and there is (BK)no unrighteousness in Him.

Jeremiah 11:1-8

The Broken Covenant

11 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, (A)Hear the words of this (B)covenant, and speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “(C)Cursed is the man who does not heed the words of this covenant which I commanded your forefathers in the (D)day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the (E)iron furnace, saying, ‘(F)Listen to My voice, and [a]do according to all which I command you; so you shall be (G)My people, and I will be your God,’ in order to confirm the (H)oath which I swore to your forefathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day.”’” Then I said, “(I)Amen, O Lord.”

And the Lord said to me, “(J)Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, ‘(K)Hear the words of this covenant and (L)do them. For I solemnly (M)warned your fathers in the (N)day that I brought them up from the land of Egypt, even to this day, [b](O)warning persistently, saying, “(P)Listen to My voice.” Yet they (Q)did not obey or incline their ear, but walked, each one, in the stubbornness of his evil heart; therefore I brought on them all the (R)words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.’”

Jeremiah 11:14-20

14 “Therefore (A)do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them; for I will (B)not listen when they call to Me because of their disaster.

15 “What right has My (C)beloved in My house
When (D)she has done many vile deeds?
Can the sacrificial flesh take away from you your disaster,
[a]So that you can rejoice?”
16 The Lord called your name,
“A (E)green olive tree, beautiful in fruit and form”;
With the (F)noise of a great tumult
He has (G)kindled fire on it,
And its branches are worthless.

17 The Lord of hosts, who (H)planted you, has (I)pronounced evil against you because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have [b]done to provoke Me by [c](J)offering up sacrifices to Baal.

Plots against Jeremiah

18 Moreover, the Lord (K)made it known to me and I knew it;
Then You showed me their deeds.
19 But I was like a gentle (L)lamb led to the slaughter;
And I did not know that they had (M)devised plots against me, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree with its [d]fruit,
And (N)let us cut him off from the (O)land of the living,
That his (P)name be remembered no more.”
20 But, O Lord of hosts, who (Q)judges righteously,
Who (R)tries the [e]feelings and the heart,
Let me see Your vengeance on them,
For to You have I [f]committed my cause.

Romans 6:1-11

Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God

(A)What shall we say then? Are we to (B)continue in sin so that grace may increase? (C)May it never be! How shall we who (D)died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been (E)baptized into (F)Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been (G)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was (H)raised from the dead through the (I)glory of the Father, so we too might walk in (J)newness of life. For (K)if we have become [a]united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [b]in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our (L)old [c]self was (M)crucified with Him, in order that our (N)body of sin might be [d]done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for (O)he who has died is [e]freed from sin.

Now (P)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been (Q)raised from the dead, [f]is never to die again; (R)death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be (S)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

John 8:33-47

33 They answered Him, “(A)We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (B)everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35 (C)The slave does not remain in the house forever; (D)the son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son (E)makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are (F)Abraham’s descendants; yet (G)you seek to kill Me, because My word [a]has no place in you. 38 I speak the things which I have seen [b]with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from (H)your father.”

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is (I)our father.” Jesus *said to them, (J)If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 But as it is, (K)you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has (L)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You are doing the deeds of (M)your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; (N)we have one Father: God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, (O)you would love Me, (P)for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have (Q)not even come on My own initiative, but [c](R)He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand [d](S)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (T)hear My word. 44 (U)You are of (V)your father the devil, and (W)you want to do the desires of your father. (X)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (Y)there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks [e]a lie, he (Z)speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of [f]lies. 45 But because (AA)I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If (AB)I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 (AC)He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
