Book of Common Prayer
105 1 He praiseth the singular grace of God, who hath of all the people of the world chosen a peculiar people to himself, and having chosen them, never ceaseth to do them good, even for his promise’s sake.
1 Praise the Lord, and call upon his Name: [a]declare his works among the people.
2 Sing unto him, sing praise unto him, and talk of all his wondrous works.
3 Rejoice in his holy Name, let the heart of them that seek the Lord, rejoice.
4 Seek the Lord and his [b]strength: seek his face continually.
5 Remember his [c]marvelous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the [d]judgments of his mouth,
6 Ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob, which are his elect.
7 He is the Lord our God: his judgments are through all the earth.
8 He hath always remembered his covenant, and promise, that he made to a thousand generations,
9 Even that which he [e]made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac:
10 And since hath confirmed it to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, [f]Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance.
12 Albeit they were few in number, yea very few, and strangers in the land,
13 And walked about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people,
14 Yet suffered he no man to do them wrong, but reproved [g]Kings for their sakes, saying,
15 Touch not mine [h]anointed, and do my [i]Prophets no harm.
16 Moreover, he called a famine upon the land, and utterly brake the [j]staff of bread.
17 But he sent a man before them: Joseph was sold for a slave.
18 They held his feet in the stocks, and he was laid in irons,
19 Until [k]his appointed time came, and the counsel of the Lord had tried him.
20 The King sent and loosed him: even the Ruler of the people delivered him.
21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance,
22 That he should bind his [l]princes unto his will, and teach his Ancients wisdom.
23 Then Israel came to Egypt, and Jacob was a stranger in the land of Ham.
24 And he increased his people exceedingly, and made them stronger than their oppressors.
25 [m]He turned their heart to hate his people, and to deal craftily with his servants.
26 Then sent he Moses his servant, and Aaron whom he had chosen.
27 They showed among them the message of his signs, and wonders in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness, and made it dark: and they were not [n]disobedient unto his commission.
29 (A)He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
30 (B)Their land brought forth frogs, even in their King’s chambers.
31 He [o]spake, and there came swarms of flies and lice in all their quarters.
32 He gave them [p]hail for rain, and flames of fire in their land.
33 He smote their vines also and their fig trees, and brake down the trees in their coasts.
34 [q]He spake and the grasshoppers came, and caterpillars innumerable,
35 And did eat up all the grass in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
36 (C)He smote also all the firstborn in their land, even the beginning of all their strength.
37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold, and there was [r]none feeble among their tribes.
38 Egypt was [s]glad at their departing: for the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a cloud to be a covering, and fire to give light in the night.
40 They [t]asked, and he brought quails, and he filled them with the bread of heaven.
41 He opened the rock, and the water flowed out, and ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For he remembered his holy [u]promise to Abraham his servant,
43 And he brought forth his people with [v]joy, and his chosen with gladness,
44 And gave them the lands of the heathen, and they took the labors of the people in possession,
45 That they might [w]keep his statutes, and observe his Laws. Praise ye the Lord.
24 3 The people promise to obey God. 4 Moses writeth the civil Laws. 9, 13 Moses returneth into the mountain. 14 Aaron and Hur have the charge of the people. 18 Moses was forty days and forty nights in the mountain.
1 Now he had [a]said unto Moses, Come up to the Lord, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the Elders of Israel, and ye shall worship afar off.
2 And Moses himself alone shall come near to the Lord, but they shall not come near, neither shall the people go up with him.
3 ¶ [b]Afterward Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the [c]Laws: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, (A)All the things which the Lord hath said, will we do.
4 And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord and rose up early, and set up an (B)altar [d]under the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
5 And he sent young [e]men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings of beeves, and sacrificed peace offerings unto the Lord.
6 Then Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7 After, he took the [f]book of the covenant, and read it in the audience of the people: who said, All that the Lord hath said, we will do, and be obedient.
8 Then Moses took the (C)blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the [g]blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these things.
9 ¶ Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the Elders of Israel.
10 And they [h]saw the God of Israel, and under his feet was as it were a [i]work of a Sapphire stone, and as the very heaven when it is clear.
11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he [j]laid not his hand: also they saw God, and [k]did eat and drink.
12 ¶ And the Lord [l]said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mountain, and be there, and I will give thee [m]tables of stone, and the Law, and the Commandment, which I have written, for to teach [n]them.
13 Then Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God,
14 And said unto the Elders, Tarry us here until we come again unto you: and behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: whosoever hath any matters, let him come to them.
15 Then Moses went up to the mount, and the cloud covered the mountain,
16 And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered [o]it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.
17 And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like [p]consuming fire on the top of the mountain, in the eyes of the children of Israel.
18 And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up to the mountain and Moses was in the (D)mount forty days and forty nights.
8 [a]Beware lest there be any man that [b]spoil you through philosophy, and vain deceit, [c]through the traditions of men, [d]according to the [e]rudiments of the world, [f]and not after Christ.
9 [g]For [h]in him [i]dwelleth [j]all the fullness of the Godhead [k]bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.
11 [l]In whom also ye are circumcised with (A)circumcision made without hands, by putting off the [m]sinful body of the flesh, through the circumcision of Christ,
12 [n]In that ye are (B)[o]buried with [p]him through baptism, [q]in whom ye are also raised up together through the faith of the operation of [r]God, which raised him from the dead.
13 (C)[s]And you which were dead in sins, [t]and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, forgiving you all your trespasses,
14 [u]And putting out the (D)[v]handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, he even took it out of the way, and fastened it upon the cross,
15 And hath spoiled the [w]Principalities, and Powers, and hath [x]made a show of them openly, and hath triumphed over them in the [y]same cross.
16 [z]Let no man therefore condemn you in meat and drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days,
17 Which are but a shadow of things to come: but the [aa]body is in Christ.
18 [ab]Let no man at his pleasure bear rule over you by [ac]humbleness of mind, and worshipping of Angels, [ad]advancing himself in those things which he never saw, [ae][af]rashly puffed up with his fleshly mind,
19 [ag]And holdeth not the [ah]head, whereof all the body furnished and knit together by joints and bands, increaseth with the increasing of [ai]God.
20 [aj]Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the ordinances of the world, why, [ak]as though ye lived in the world, are ye burdened with traditions?
21 [al]As, Touch not, Taste not, Handle not.
22 [am]Which all perish with the using, [an]and are after the commandments and doctrines of men.
23 [ao]Which things have indeed a show of [ap]wisdom, in [aq]voluntary religion and humbleness of mind, and in [ar]not sparing the body, which are things of no value, since they pertain to the [as]filling of the flesh.
12 ¶ (A)[a]And when Jesus had heard that John was committed to prison, he returned into Galilee,
13 And leaving Nazareth, went and dwelt in [b]Capernaum, which is near the sea in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet, saying,
15 (B)The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali by the way of the [c]sea, beyond Jordan, [d]Galilee of the Gentiles:
16 The people which sat in darkness, saw great light: and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, light is risen up.
17 (C)From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Amend your lives: for the kingdom of heaven is at [e]hand.
