20 A prayer of the people unto God, that it would please him to hear their king and receive his sacrifice, which he offered before he went to battle against the Ammonites.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 The [a]Lord hear thee in the day of trouble: the [b]Name of the God of Jacob defend thee:
2 Send thee help from the Sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion.
3 Let him remember all thine offerings, and [c]turn thy burnt offerings into ashes. Selah.
4 And grant thee according to thine heart, and fulfill all thy purpose:
5 That we may rejoice in thy [d]salvation, and set up the banner in the Name of our God, when the Lord shall perform all thy petitions.
6 Now [e]know I that the Lord will help his anointed, and will hear him from his [f]Sanctuary, by the mighty help of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God.
8 [g]They are brought down and fallen, but we are risen, and stand upright.
9 Save Lord: [h]Let the King hear us in the day that we call.
21 1 David in the person of the people praiseth God for the victory, attributing it to God, and not to the strength of man. Wherein the holy Ghost directeth the faithful to Christ, who is the perfection of this kingdom.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.
1 The King shall [i]rejoice in thy strength, O Lord: yea how greatly shall he rejoice in thy salvation?
2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not denied him the request of his lips. Selah.
3 For thou [j]didst prevent him with liberal blessings, and didst set a crown of pure gold upon his head.
4 [k]He asked life of thee, and thou gavest him a long life forever and ever.
5 His glory is great in thy salvation: dignity and honor hast thou laid upon him.
6 For thou hast set him as [l]blessings forever: thou hast made him glad with the joy of thy countenance.
7 Because the king trusteth in the Lord, and in the mercy of the most high, he shall not slide.
8 [m]Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies, and thy right hand shall find out them that hate thee.
9 Thou shalt make them like a fiery oven in time of thine anger: the Lord shall destroy them in his [n]wrath, and the fire shall devour them.
10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from the children of men.
11 For they [o]intended evil against thee, and imagined mischief, but they shall not prevail.
12 Therefore shalt thou put them [p]apart, and the strings of thy bow shalt thou make ready against their faces.
13 [q]Be thou exalted, O Lord, in thy strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.
110 1 David prophesieth of the power and everlasting kingdom given to Christ, 4 and of his Priesthood, which should put an end to the Priesthood of Levi.
A Psalm of David.
1 The [a]Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy power out of [b]Zion: be thou ruler in the midst of thine enemies.
3 Thy people shall come willingly at the time of assembling [c]thine army in holy beauty: the youth of thy womb shall be as the morning dew.
4 The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of [d]Melchizedek.
5 The Lord that is at thy right hand, shall wound kings in the day of his wrath.
6 He shall be judge among the heathen: he shall fill all with dead bodies, and smite the [e]head over great countries.
7 He shall [f]drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up his head.
116 1 David being in great danger of Saul in the desert of M[…], perceiving the great and inestimable love of God toward him, magnifieth such great mercies, 13 and protesteth that he will be thankful for the same.
1 I [a]love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my prayers.
2 For he hath inclined his ear unto me, when I did call upon him [b]in my days.
3 When the snares of death compassed me, and the griefs of the grave caught me: When I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called upon the Name of the Lord, saying, I beseech thee, O Lord, deliver my soul.
5 The Lord is [c]merciful and righteous, and our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord preserveth the simple: I was in misery, and he saved me.
7 Return unto thy rest, O [d]my soul: for the Lord hath been beneficial unto thee,
8 Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
9 I shall [e]walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
10 [f]I believed, therefore did I speak: for I was sore troubled.
11 I said in my [g]fear, All men are liars.
12 What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
13 I will [h]take the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord.
14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord, even now in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the [i]death of his Saints.
16 Behold, Lord: for I am thy servant, I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast broken my bonds.
17 I will offer to thee a sacrifice of praise, and will call upon the Name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my [j]vows unto the Lord, even now in the presence of all his people,
19 In the courts of the Lord’s house, even in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord.
117 1 He exhorteth the Gentiles to praise God, because he hath accomplished as well to them as to the Jews, the promise of life everlasting by Jesus Christ.
1 All (A)nations, praise ye the Lord: all ye people, praise him.
2 For his loving kindness is great toward us, and the [k]truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord.
17 1 The Israelites come into Rephidim, and grudge for water. 6 Water is given them out of the rock. 11 Moses holdeth up his hands, and they overcome the Amalekites. 15 Moses buildeth an altar to the Lord.
1 And all the Congregation of the children of Israel departed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys at the [a]commandment of the Lord, and camped in [b]Rephidim, where was no water for the people to drink.
2 (A)Wherefore the people contended with Moses, and said, Give us water, that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why contend ye with me? wherefore do ye [c]tempt the Lord?
3 So the people thirsted there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou thus brought us out of Egypt, to kill us, and our children, and our cattle with thirst?
4 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do to this people? for they be almost ready to [d]stone me.
5 And the Lord answered to Moses, Go before the people, and take with thee of the Elders of Israel: and thy rod wherewith thou (B)smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go:
6 (C)Behold, I will stand there before thee upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite on the rock, and water shall come out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the Elders of Israel.
7 And he called the name of the place [e]Massah and [f]Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they had tempted the Lord, saying, Is the [g]Lord among us, or no?
8 ¶ (D)Then came [h]Amalek and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us out men, and go fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the [i]hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses bade him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, went up to the top of the hill.
11 And when Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed: but when he let his hand [j]down, Amalek prevailed.
12 Now Moses’ hands were heavy: therefore they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat upon it: and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side: so his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 ¶ And the Lord said to Moses, Write this for a remembrance [k]in the book, and [l]rehearse it to Joshua: for (E)I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15 (And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it [m]Jehovah Nissi.)
16 Also he said, [n]The Lord hath sworn, that he will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
7 [a]Now the end of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore sober, and watching in prayer.
8 [b]But above all things have fervent love among you: (A)for love shall cover the multitude of sins.
9 [c]Be ye (B)harberous one to another, without grudging.
10 [d](C)Let every man as he hath received the gift, minister the same one to another, [e]as good disposers of the manifold grace of God.
11 [f]If any man speak, let him speak as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God ministereth, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is praise and dominion forever, and ever, Amen.
12 [g]Dearly beloved, think it not [h]strange [i]concerning the fiery trial, which is among you to prove you as though some strange thing were come unto you.
13 [j]But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, that when his glory shall appear, ye may be glad and rejoice.
14 (D)[k]If ye be railed upon for the Name of Christ, blessed are ye: for the [l]spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: which on their part is evil spoken of, but on your part is glorified.
15 [m]But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or an evil doer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16 But if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed: but let him glorify God in this behalf.
17 [n]For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God. [o]If it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them which obey not the Gospel of God?
18 (E)And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 [p]Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
16 [a]A [b]little while, and ye shall not see me: and again a little while, and ye shall see me: [c]for I go to the Father.
17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, and, For I go to the Father.
18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we know not what he saith.
19 Now Jesus knew that they would ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves, of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
20 Verily, verily I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world shall rejoice, and ye shall sorrow, but your sorrow shall be turned to joy.
21 A woman when she travaileth hath sorrow because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22 And ye now therefore are in sorrow: but I will see you again, and your hearts shall rejoice, and your joy shall no man take from you.
23 And in that day shall ye ask me nothing. (A)Verily, verily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my Name, he will give it you.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my Name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25 [d]These things have I spoken unto you in parables: but the time will come, when I shall no more speak to you in parables: but I shall show you plainly of the Father.
26 [e]At that day shall ye ask in my Name, and I say not unto you, that I will pray unto the Father for you:
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, (B)and have believed that I came out from God.
28 I am come out from the Father, and came into the world: again I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 [f]His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and thou speakest no parable.
30 Now know we that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe, that thou art come out from God.
31 Jesus answered them, Do you believe now?
32 (C)[g]Behold, the hour cometh, and is already come, that ye shall be scattered every man into his own, and shall leave me alone: But I am not alone: for the Father is with me.
33 [h]These things have I spoken unto you, that [i]in me ye might have peace: in the world ye shall have affliction, but be of good comfort: I have overcome the world.
