Book of Common Prayer
God Stands in Judgment
A Psalm of Asaph.
82 God takes His (A)stand in the congregation of [a]God;
He (B)judges in the midst of [b](C)gods.
2 How long will you (D)judge unrighteously
And (E)show partiality to the wicked? [c]Selah.
3 (F)Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
Justify the afflicted and destitute.
4 (G)Protect the poor and needy;
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They (H)do not know and do not understand;
They (I)walk about in darkness;
All the (J)foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 [d]I (K)said, “You are gods,
And all of you are (L)sons of the Most High.
7 Nevertheless (M)you will die like men
And you will fall like any (N)one of the princes.”
8 (O)Arise, O God, (P)judge the earth!
For it is You who (Q)will inherit all the nations.
Yahweh Loves the Gates of Zion
Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm. A Song.
87 His (A)foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 Yahweh (B)loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwelling places of Jacob.
3 (C)Glorious things are spoken of you,
O (D)city of God. [a]Selah.
4 “I shall mention [b](E)Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me;
Behold, Philistia and (F)Tyre with [c](G)Ethiopia:
‘This one was born there.’”
5 But of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”;
And the Most High Himself will (H)establish her.
6 Yahweh will count when He (I)registers the peoples,
“This one was born there.” Selah.
7 And (J)singers, just like the (K)dancers, will all say,
“All my (L)springs are in you.”
7 How lovely on the mountains
Are the feet of him who proclaims (A)good news,
Who [a]announces [b]peace
And proclaims good news of good things,
Who [c]announces salvation,
And says to Zion, “Your (B)God [d]reigns!”
8 The voice of Your watchmen! They lift up their (C)voices;
They shout joyfully together;
For they will see [e]with their own eyes
When Yahweh returns to Zion.
9 (D)Break forth, shout joyfully together,
You (E)waste places of Jerusalem;
For Yahweh has comforted His people;
He has (F)redeemed Jerusalem.
10 Yahweh has bared His holy (G)arm
In the sight of all the nations,
[f]That (H)all the ends of the earth may see
The salvation of our God.
11 (I)Depart, depart, go out from there,
(J)Touch nothing unclean;
Go out of the midst of her, (K)purify yourselves,
You who carry the vessels of Yahweh.
12 But you will not go out in (L)haste,
Nor will you go as those who flee;
For (M)Yahweh will go before you,
And (N)the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
Jesus, the Author of Salvation
5 For He did not subject to angels [a](A)the world to come, concerning which we are speaking. 6 But one has testified (B)somewhere, saying,
“(C)What is man, that You remember him?
Or the son of man, that You are concerned about him?
7 (D)You have made [b]him for a little while lower than the angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor,
[c]And have appointed him over the works of Your hands;
8 (E)You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now (F)we do not yet see all things subjected to him. 9 But we do see Him who was (G)made [d]for a little while lower than the angels—Jesus, (H)because of the suffering of death (I)crowned with glory and honor, so that (J)by the grace of God He might (K)taste death (L)for everyone.
10 For (M)it was fitting for Him, (N)for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to (O)perfect the [e](P)author of their salvation through sufferings.
You Are a Priest Forever
Of David. A Psalm.
110 (A)Yahweh says to my Lord:
“(B)Sit at My right hand
Until I put (C)Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
2 Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong (D)scepter from Zion, saying,
“(E)Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies.”
3 Your (F)people [a]will offer themselves freely in the day of Your [b]power;
(G)In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,
The (H)dew of Your youthfulness will be Yours.
4 (I)Yahweh has sworn and will (J)not [c]change His mind,
“You are a (K)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is (L)at Your right hand;
He [d]will (M)crush kings in the (N)day of His anger.
6 He will (O)render justice among the nations,
He [e]will fill them with (P)corpses,
He [f]will (Q)crush the [g]head that is over the wide earth.
7 He will (R)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (S)lift up His head.
Yahweh Has Chosen Zion
A Song of Ascents.
132 Remember, O Yahweh, on David’s behalf,
All (A)his affliction;
2 How he swore to Yahweh
And vowed to (B)the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “Surely I will not come into [a](C)my house,
Nor [b]lie in the [c]comfort of my bed;
4 I will not (D)give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Until I find a (E)place for Yahweh,
[d]A dwelling place for (F)the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard of it in (G)Ephrathah,
We found it in the (H)fields of [e]Jaar.
7 Let us come into His [f](I)dwelling place;
Let us (J)worship at the (K)footstool of His feet.
8 (L)Arise, O Yahweh, to Your (M)resting place,
You and the ark of Your (N)strength.
9 Let Your priests be (O)clothed with righteousness,
And let Your (P)holy ones sing for joy.
10 For the sake of David Your servant,
Do not turn away the face of Your (Q)anointed.
11 Yahweh has (R)sworn to David
A truth from which He will not turn back:
“(S)Of the fruit of your [g]body I will set upon your throne.
12 If your sons keep My covenant
And My testimony which I will teach them,
Their sons also shall (T)sit upon your throne forever.”
13 For Yahweh has (U)chosen Zion;
He has (V)desired it for His habitation.
14 “This is My (W)resting place forever;
Here I will (X)inhabit, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly (Y)bless her provision;
I will (Z)satisfy her needy with bread.
16 Her (AA)priests also I will clothe with salvation,
And her (AB)holy ones will sing loudly for joy.
17 There I will cause the (AC)horn of David to spring up;
I have prepared a (AD)lamp for Mine anointed.
18 His enemies I will (AE)clothe with shame,
But upon him, his (AF)crown shall blossom.”
9 There was (A)the true Light [a]which, coming into the world, enlightens everyone. 10 He was in the world, and (B)the world [b]was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to what was His [c]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become (C)children of God, even (D)to those who believe in His name, 13 (E)who were [d]born, not of [e]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
The Word Became Flesh
14 And (F)the Word (G)became flesh, and [f](H)dwelt among us, and (I)we beheld His glory, glory as of the [g]only begotten from the Father, full of (J)grace and (K)truth.
