Book of Common Prayer
We Will Boast in the Name of Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
20 May Yahweh answer you (A)in the day of distress!
May the (B)name of the (C)God of Jacob set you securely on high!
2 May He send you help (D)from the sanctuary
And (E)uphold you from Zion!
3 May He (F)remember all your meal offerings
And (G)find your burnt offering [a]acceptable! [b]Selah.
4 May He grant you your (H)heart’s desire
And (I)fulfill all your [c]counsel!
5 [d]We will (J)sing for joy over your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will (K)set up our banners.
May Yahweh (L)fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now (M)I know that Yahweh saves His anointed;
He will (N)answer him from His holy heaven
With the [e](O)saving might of His right hand.
7 Some boast in chariots and some in (P)horses,
But (Q)we will [f]boast in the name of Yahweh, our God.
8 They have (R)bowed down and fallen,
But we have (S)risen and stood upright.
9 [g](T)Save, O Yahweh;
May the (U)King answer us in the day we call.
The King Trusts in Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
21 O Yahweh, in Your strength the king will (V)be glad,
And in Your [h]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
2 You have (W)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. [i]Selah.
3 For You (X)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (Y)crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked life of You,
You (Z)gave it to him,
(AA)Length of days forever and ever.
5 His (AB)glory is great through Your [j]salvation,
(AC)Splendor and majesty You bestow upon him.
6 For You make him [k]most (AD)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (AE)with gladness in Your presence.
7 For the king (AF)trusts in Yahweh,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High (AG)he will not be shaken.
8 Your hand will (AH)find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them (AI)as a fiery oven in the time of your [l]anger;
Yahweh will (AJ)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (AK)fire will devour them.
10 Their [m]offspring You will destroy from the earth,
And their (AL)seed from among the sons of men.
11 Though they [n](AM)intended evil against You
And (AN)devised a scheme,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (AO)make them turn their back;
You will [o]aim (AP)with Your bowstrings at their faces.
13 Be exalted, O Yahweh, in Your strength;
We will (AQ)sing and praise Your might.
You Are a Priest Forever
Of David. A Psalm.
110 (A)Yahweh says to my Lord:
“(B)Sit at My right hand
Until I put (C)Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet.”
2 Yahweh will stretch forth Your strong (D)scepter from Zion, saying,
“(E)Have dominion in the midst of Your enemies.”
3 Your (F)people [a]will offer themselves freely in the day of Your [b]power;
(G)In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,
The (H)dew of Your youthfulness will be Yours.
4 (I)Yahweh has sworn and will (J)not [c]change His mind,
“You are a (K)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is (L)at Your right hand;
He [d]will (M)crush kings in the (N)day of His anger.
6 He will (O)render justice among the nations,
He [e]will fill them with (P)corpses,
He [f]will (Q)crush the [g]head that is over the wide earth.
7 He will (R)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (S)lift up His head.
I Love Yahweh
116 (A)I love Yahweh, because He (B)hears
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has (C)inclined His ear to me,
So I shall call upon Him in all my days.
3 The (D)cords of death encompassed me
And the [a]distresses of Sheol found me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4 Then (E)I called upon the name of Yahweh:
“O Yahweh, I beseech You, [b](F)provide my soul escape!”
5 (G)Gracious is Yahweh, and (H)righteous;
And our God is (I)compassionate.
6 Yahweh keeps (J)the simple;
I was (K)brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your (L)rest, O my soul,
For Yahweh has (M)dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have (N)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
9 I shall walk before Yahweh
In the [c](O)land of the living.
10 I (P)believed when I said,
“I am (Q)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (R)said in my alarm,
“(S)All men are liars.”
12 What shall I (T)give to Yahweh in return
For all His (U)bountiful dealings [d]with me?
13 I shall lift up the (V)cup of [e]salvation
And (W)call upon the name of Yahweh.
14 I shall (X)pay my vows to Yahweh,
Oh may it be (Y)in the presence of all His people.
15 (Z)Precious in the sight of Yahweh
Is the death of His holy ones.
16 O Yahweh, [f]surely I am (AA)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (AB)son of Your maidservant,
You have (AC)loosed my bonds.
17 To You I shall offer (AD)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (AE)call upon the name of Yahweh.
18 I shall (AF)pay my vows to Yahweh,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (AG)courts of the house of Yahweh,
In the midst of you, O (AH)Jerusalem.
[g]Praise Yah!
Yahweh’s Lovingkindness Prevails
22 “These words Yahweh spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud and of the dense gloom, with a great voice, and He added no more. (A)He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me. 23 Now it happened that when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, you came near to me, all the heads of your tribes and your elders. 24 And you said, ‘Behold, Yahweh our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with man, yet he lives. 25 (B)So now then why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of Yahweh our God any longer, then we will die. 26 For (C)who is there of all flesh who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 27 As for you, go near and hear all that Yahweh our God says; then speak to us all that Yahweh our God speaks to you, and we will hear and do it.’
28 “And Yahweh heard the voice of your words when you spoke to me, (D)and Yahweh said to me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken. 29 (E)Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and (F)keep all My commandments all the days, that (G)it may be well with them and with their sons forever! 30 Go, say to them, “Return to your tents.” 31 (H)But as for you, stand here by Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.’ 32 So you shall be careful to do just as Yahweh your God has commanded you; (I)you shall not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33 (J)In all the way which Yahweh your God has commanded you, you shall walk, (K)that you may live and that it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.
Examine Yourselves
13 (A)This is the third time I am coming to you. (B)By the mouth of two or three witnesses every [a]matter shall be confirmed. 2 I have previously said when present the second time, and though now absent I say in advance to those who have (C)sinned in the past and to all the rest as well, that (D)if I come again I will not (E)spare anyone, 3 since you are (F)seeking proof that (G)Christ speaks in me; He is not weak toward you, but (H)mighty in you. 4 For indeed He was (I)crucified because of weakness, yet He lives (J)because of the power of God. For we also are (K)weak [b]in Him, yet (L)we will live with Him because of the power of God toward you.
5 (M)Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; (N)examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you [c](O)fail the test? 6 But I hope that you will realize that we ourselves [d]do not fail the test. 7 Now we pray to God that you do no wrong, not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we may [e]appear unapproved. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we rejoice when we ourselves are (P)weak but you are strong. This we also pray for, [f]that you be (Q)restored. 10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when present (R)I need not use (S)severity, in accordance with the (T)authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
11 (U)Finally, brothers, [g]rejoice, [h](V)be restored, be comforted, (W)be like-minded, (X)live in peace, and (Y)the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 (Z)Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 (AA)All the [i]saints greet you.
14 (AB)The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the (AC)love of God, and the (AD)fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
22 (A)Many will say to Me on (B)that day, ‘Lord, Lord, in Your name did we not prophesy, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many [a]miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; (C)depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
Build Your House on the Rock
24 “Therefore (D)everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, [b]may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone hearing these words of Mine and not doing them, may be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
28 [c](E)Now it happened that when Jesus had finished these words, (F)the crowds were astonished at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
