    Warning Against the Invitation of Sinful Men

    Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
  2. My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.
  3. But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
  4. since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
  5. since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord.
  6. Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,
  7. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast.
  8. So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor’s hands: Go—to the point of exhaustion— and give your neighbor no rest!
  9. The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death.
  10. Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.
  11. If the righteous receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the sinner!
  12. Evildoers are trapped by their sinful talk, and so the innocent escape trouble.
  13. Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
  14. Trouble pursues the sinner, but the righteous are rewarded with good things.
