  1. Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness

    This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
  2. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

  10. God’s Children and Sin

    And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
  11. Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
  12. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.
  13. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
  14. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
  15. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
  16. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
  17. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
  18. If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that.
  19. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
  20. We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.
