Det judiska rådet vill se Jesus dömd till döden

(Matt 27:1-2; 27:11-14; Luk 23:1-5; Joh 18:28-38)

15 Tidigt nästa morgon samlades översteprästerna och folkets ledare och de skriftlärda – hela rådet[a] – och fattade ett beslut. Sedan lät de binda Jesus och förde bort honom och överlämnade honom till Pilatus.[b]

Jesus förhörs av Pilatus

2 Pilatus frågade honom: ”Är du judarnas kung?” Men Jesus svarade: ”Det är du själv som säger det.”

3 Sedan anklagade översteprästerna honom för en rad olika brott, 4 och Pilatus frågade honom: ”Varför säger du ingenting? Du hör ju hur mycket de anklagar dig för!”

5 Men till Pilatus stora förvåning svarade Jesus inget mer.

Pilatus dömer Jesus till döden

(Matt 27:15-26; Luk 23:13-25; Joh 18:39—19:16)

6 Vid påskhögtiden brukade Pilatus alltid frige en fånge åt dem, vem som helst som de ville ha fri. 7 Just då satt en man fängslad som hette Barabbas. Han hade tillsammans med några andra begått mord under ett uppror.

8 Folket började nu samlas inför Pilatus för att be honom göra som han brukade.

9 ”Vill ni att jag ska släppa judarnas kung?” frågade Pilatus. 10 Han visste mycket väl att översteprästerna hade överlämnat Jesus åt honom för att de var avundsjuka på Jesus.

11 Men översteprästerna hetsade upp folket och fick dem att kräva att Barabbas skulle friges istället.

12 Pilatus frågade då igen: ”Vad ska jag då göra med den här mannen som ni kallar judarnas kung?”

13 ”Korsfäst honom!” ropade de tillbaka.

14 ”Men vad har han gjort för ont?” frågade Pilatus.

Då ropade de ännu högre: ”Korsfäst honom!” 15 Till slut gav Pilatus efter och släppte Barabbas, eftersom han ville göra som folket krävde. Men Jesus lät han piska och överlämnade honom sedan till att korsfästas.

De romerska soldaterna hånar Jesus

(Matt 27:27-31; Joh 19:2-3)

16 Soldaterna ledde först in Jesus på gården till landshövdingens residens, där hela vaktstyrkan kallades samman. 17 De klädde på honom en purpurröd[c] mantel och vred ihop en krona av törnen som de satte på honom. 18 ”Leve judarnas kung!” ropade de. 19 De slog honom i huvudet med en käpp, spottade på honom och föll på knä för att hylla honom.

20 Efter att ha hånat honom tog de av honom den purpurröda manteln, satte på honom hans egna kläder och förde bort honom för att korsfästas.

Jesus korsfästs

(Matt 27:32-44; Luk 23:26-43; Joh 19:17-24)

21 En man, Simon från Kyrene[d], far till Alexandros och Rufus, var på väg in från landsbygden, och honom tvingade de att bära Jesus kors.

22 De förde Jesus till den plats som kallas Golgota (vilket betyder Skalleplatsen). 23 Där gav man honom vin blandat med myrra,[e] men han ville inte ha det. 24 Sedan korsfäste de honom och delade hans kläder mellan sig genom att kasta lott om dem.

25 Klockan var runt nio på morgonen[f] när han korsfästes. 26 Ovanför honom hade man satt upp en skylt med texten: Judarnas kung, för att visa vad han anklagades för.

27 Samtidigt med Jesus blev också två brottslingar korsfästa, en på var sida om honom.[g] 29 Och de som gick förbi hånade Jesus och skakade på huvudet och sa: ”Se där ja! Var det inte du som skulle riva ner templet och bygga upp det igen på tre dagar? 30 Rädda dig själv nu och kliv ner från korset!”

31 Även översteprästerna och de skriftlärda gjorde sig lustiga över honom och sa till varandra:

”Han var bra på att rädda andra, men han kan inte rädda sig själv! 32 Skulle han vara Messias, Israels kung? Ja, om vi får se honom kliva ner från korset, då ska vi tro på honom!”

Också de som var korsfästa tillsammans med honom hånade honom.

Jesus dör på korset

(Matt 27:45-56; Luk 23:44-49; Joh 19:28-30)

33 När klockan var tolv blev det mörkt över hela jorden, och mörkret varade ända fram till klockan tre. 34 Vid tretiden ropade Jesus med hög röst: ”Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachtani?” (det betyder: ”Min Gud, min Gud, varför har du övergett mig?”)[h]

35 Några av dem som stod där i närheten hörde det och sa: ”Hör, han ropar på Elia!” 36 En av dem sprang bort och fyllde en svamp med surt vin, och satte den på en käpp och höll upp den så att han kunde dricka. ”Låt oss se om Elia kommer och tar ner honom!”, sa han.

37 Men Jesus ropade högt och slutade att andas[i]. 38 Då brast förhänget i templet[j] i två delar, uppifrån och ända ned.

39 När den romerska officeren, som stod framför honom, såg på vilket sätt Jesus gav upp andan, ropade han: ”Den mannen var verkligen Guds Son!”

40 Några kvinnor stod också en bit bort och såg på. Bland dem var Maria från Magdala och den Maria som var mor till Jakob den yngre och Joses, och Salome. 41 De hade följt Jesus och hjälpt honom då han var i Galileen. Där fanns också många andra kvinnor som följt med Jesus till Jerusalem.

Jesus begravs

(Matt 27:57-61; Luk 23:50-56; Joh 19:38-42)

42 Detta hände på fredagen, förberedelsedagen, alltså dagen före sabbaten[k]. Och när kvällen[l] närmade sig 43 var Josef från Arimataia, en respekterad medlem av rådet som väntade på Guds rike, modig nog att gå till Pilatus och be att få ta hand om Jesus kropp.

44 Pilatus hade svårt att tro att Jesus redan var död, så han kallade till sig officeren för att fråga honom om Jesus verkligen redan hade dött. 45 När officeren bekräftade det, lät han Josef ta kroppen.

46 Josef köpte linnetyg, tog ner Jesus, lindade honom i tyget och lade honom i en grav som var uthuggen i berget. Sedan rullade han en sten framför ingången till graven. 47 Både Maria från Magdala och Maria, Joses mor, såg var Jesus kropp lades.

ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତା ପୀଲାତ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରଶ୍ନ କଲେ

15 ସକାଳ ହେବା ମାତ୍ରେ ପ୍ରଧାନଯାଜକ, ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ଯିହୂଦୀ ନେତାଗଣ ଓ ଧର୍ମଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ତଥା ସମଗ୍ର ଯିହୂଦୀ ମହାସଭା ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି କ’ଣ ବିଗ୍ଭର କରାଯିବ, ତାହା ସ୍ଥିର କଲେ। ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ବାନ୍ଧି ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତା ପୀଲାତଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ନେଇଗଲେ ଓ ତାହାଙ୍କ ହାତରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କରିଦେଲେ।

2 ପୀଲାତ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ କ’ଣ ଯିହୂଦୀମାନଙ୍କର ରାଜା?”

ଯୀଶୁ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଯାହା କହିଲ ତାହା ସତ୍ୟ।”

3 ପ୍ରଧାନଯାଜକମାନେ ଅନେକ ବିଷୟରେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତ କଲେ। 4 ପୀଲାତ ପୁଣି ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭର କ’ଣ କିଛି କହିବାର ନାହିଁ? ଦେଖ, ସେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଅନେକ ବିଷୟରେ ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତ କରୁଛନ୍ତି।”

5 ତଥାପି ଯୀଶୁ କିଛି ହେଲେ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ ନାହିଁ। ପୀଲାତ ଏଥିରେ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଆଶ୍ଚର୍ଯ୍ୟ ହୋଇଗଲେ।

ପୀଲାତ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରିବାରେ ଅସମର୍ଥ ହେଲେ

6 ପ୍ରତିବର୍ଷ ପରମ୍ପରାକ୍ରମେ ନିସ୍ତାରପର୍ବ ସମୟରେ ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତା ଜଣେ ବନ୍ଦୀକୁ ବନ୍ଦୀଶାଳାରୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରିଥା’ନ୍ତି। ଯେଉଁ ବନ୍ଦୀକୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଲୋକମାନେ ଗ୍ଭହାନ୍ତି, କେବଳ ସେହି ବନ୍ଦୀକୁ ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତା ମୁକ୍ତି ଦେଇଥା’ନ୍ତି। 7 ସେହି ସମୟରେ ବନ୍ଦୀଶାଳାରେ ବାର‌ବ୍‌ବା ନାମରେ ଏକ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି ବିଦ୍ରୋହୀମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ ବନ୍ଦୀ ଥିଲା। ଏହି ବିଦ୍ରୋହୀମାନେ ଗୋଟିଏ ବିଦ୍ରୋହ ସମୟରେ ନରହତ୍ୟା ଅପରାଧରେ ଦୋଷୀ ସାବ୍ୟସ୍ତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ।

8 ଲୋକମାନେ ପୀଲାତଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ଆସିଲେ ଓ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ ଯେ ସବୁଥର ଭଳି ଏଥର ମଧ୍ୟ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ସେ ଜଣେ ବନ୍ଦୀକୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରନ୍ତୁ। 9 ପୀଲାତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ କ’ଣ ଗ୍ଭହୁଁଛ ଯେ ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଯିହୂଦୀମାନଙ୍କ ରାଜାଙ୍କୁ ଛାଡ଼ି ଦିଏ?” 10 ପୀଲାତ ଏ କଥା କହିବାର କାରଣ ହେଲା, ସେ ଜାଣିଥିଲେ ଯେ ପ୍ରଧାନଯାଜକମାନେ ଈର୍ଷାନ୍ୱିତ ହୋଇ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ତାହାଙ୍କ ହାତରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କରି ଦେଇଛନ୍ତି। 11 କିନ୍ତୁ ପ୍ରଧାନଯାଜକମାନେ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରବର୍ତ୍ତାଇଲେ ଯେ, ସେମାନେ ପୀଲାତଙ୍କୁ କୁହନ୍ତୁ ବାର‌ବ୍‌ବାକୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରିବା ପାଇଁ, କିନ୍ତୁ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ନୁହେଁ।

12 ପୀଲାତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଆହୁରି ଥରେ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଯାହାକୁ ଯିହୂଦୀମାନଙ୍କର ରାଜା ବୋଲି କହୁଛ, ମୁଁ ତାହାଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି କ’ଣ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଗ୍ଭହୁଁଛ?”

13 ଲୋକମାନେ ପାଟି କରି କହିଲେ, “ତାହାଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୁଶରେ ଚଢ଼ାଅ।”

14 ପୀଲାତ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ, “କାହିଁକି? ସେ ଏଭଳି କ’ଣ ଅପରାଧ କରିଛନ୍ତି?”

କିନ୍ତୁ ଲୋକମାନେ ଅଧିକ ଜୋ‌ର୍‌ରେ ଚିତ୍କାର କରି କହିଲେ, “ତାହାଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୁଶରେ ଚଢ଼ାଅ।”

15 ପୀଲାତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ଖୁସୀ କରିବାକୁ ଗ୍ଭହିଁଲେ, ତେଣୁ ସେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ବାର‌ବ୍‌ବାକୁ ମୁକ୍ତ କରିଦେଲେ ଏବଂ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ କୋରଡ଼ାରେ ପିଟିବା ପାଇଁ ସୈନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କୁ ଆଦେଶ ଦେଲେ। ତା'ପରେ ସେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୁଶରେ ଚଢ଼ାଇ ମାରିଦେବା ପାଇଁ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ସୈନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କ ହାତରେ ଦେଇ ଦେଲେ।

16 ସୈନ୍ୟମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତାଙ୍କ ପ୍ରାସାଦ ଭିତରକୁ ନେଇଗଲେ। ସେମାନେ ଅନ୍ୟ ସମସ୍ତ ସୈନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏକାଠି ଡାକିଲେ। 17 ସୈନ୍ୟମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ବାଇଗଣୀ ରଙ୍ଗର ପୋଷାକ ପିନ୍ଧାଇଲେ। ସେମାନେ ଗୋଟିଏ କଣ୍ଟାର ମୁକୁଟ ତିଆରି କରି ତାହାଙ୍କ ମୁଣ୍ଡରେ ପିନ୍ଧାଇଲେ। 18 ତା'ପରେ ସେମାନେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ସ୍ୱାଗତ କରି ଥଟ୍ଟାରେ କହିଲେ, ହେ ଯିହୂଦୀମାନଙ୍କର ରାଜା, କହି ପ୍ରଣାମ କଲେ। 19 ସୈନ୍ୟମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ମୁଣ୍ଡରେ ବାରମ୍ବାର ବେତରେ ଆଘାତ କଲେ। ତାହାଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଛେପ ପକାଇଲେ। ଆଣ୍ଠୁମାଡ଼ି ବସି ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରଣାମ କଲେ। 20 ଥଟ୍ଟା କରି ସାରିବା ପରେ ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ଦେହରୁ ବାଇଗଣୀ ପୋଷାକ କାଢ଼ିନେଇ ପୁଣି ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ତାହାଙ୍କର ପୂର୍ବ ବସ୍ତ୍ର ପିନ୍ଧାଇ ଦେଲେ। ତା'ପରେ ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୁଶରେ ଚଢ଼ାଇ ମାରିବା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରାସାଦ ବାହାରକୁ ନେଇଗଲେ।

କ୍ରୁଶ ଉପରେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ହତ୍ୟା କଲେ

(ମାଥିଉ 27:32-44; ଲୂକ 23:26-39; ଯୋହନ 19:17-19)

21 ସେତେବେଳେ ଜଣେ କୂରୀଣୀୟ ବାସିନ୍ଦା ଶିମୋନ ପଲ୍ଲୀଗ୍ରାମରୁ ଆସି ସେ ବାଟେ ଯାଉଥିଲା। ସେ ଆଲେ‌କ୍‌ଜାଣ୍ଡାର ଓ ରୂଫଙ୍କ ପିତା ଥିଲା। ସୈନ୍ୟମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ କ୍ରୁଶ ବୋହି ନେବାକୁ ତାକୁ ବାଧ୍ୟ କଲେ। 22 ତା'ପରେ ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଗ‌‌ଲ୍‌‌ଗଥା ନାମକ ସ୍ଥାନକୁ ନେଇଗଲେ। ଗ‌‌ଲ୍‌‌ଗଥାର ଅର୍ଥ “କପାଳ ସ୍ଥାନ” 23 ସେଠାରେ ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଗନ୍ଧରସ ମିଶ୍ରିତ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାରସ ପିଇବାକୁ ଦେଲେ। କିନ୍ତୁ ଯୀଶୁ ତାହା ପିଇବାକୁ ମନା କଲେ। 24 ତା'ପରେ ସୈନ୍ୟମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୁଶ ବିଦ୍ଧ କଲେ। ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ଲୁଗା ପଟା ନିଜ ନିଜ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ବାଣ୍ଟି ନେଲେ। କିଏ କ’ଣ ପାଇବ, ତାହା ସେମାନେ ଗୁଲିବାଣ୍ଟ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଭାଗ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ସ୍ଥିର କଲେ।

25 ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ କ୍ରୁଶବିଦ୍ଧ କଲା ବେଳକୁ ସକାଳ ନଅଟା ବାଜିଥିଲା। 26 ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ଅଭିଯୋଗପତ୍ର ଫଳକ ଉପରେ ଲେଖା ଯାଇଥିଲା ଏ “ଯିହୂଦୀମାନଙ୍କର ରାଜା।” 27 ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଆଉ ଦୁଇଜଣ ଡକାୟତଙ୍କୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେମାନେ କ୍ରୁଶ ବିଦ୍ଧ କଲେ। ଜଣକୁ ତାହାଙ୍କର ଡାହାଣ ପଟେ ଓ ଆଉ ଜଣକୁ ବାମ ପଟେ କ୍ରୁଶ ବିଦ୍ଧ କରାଗଲା। 28 [a]

29 ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ପାଖଦେଇ ଗ୍ଭଲିଯାଉଥିବା ଲୋକେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ଅପମାନିତ କରୁଥିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ମୁଣ୍ଡ ହଲେଇ ହଲେଇ କହୁଥିଲେ, “ଆରେ ବାଃ, ତୁ ସେହି ଲୋକ, ଯିଏ ମନ୍ଦିରକୁ ଭାଙ୍ଗି ଦେଇ ତିନି ଦିନ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ତାହା ପୁଣି ତିଆରି କରି ଦେବୁ ବୋଲି କହୁଥିଲୁ। 30 ଏବେ କ୍ରୁଶ ଉପରୁ ଓହ୍ଲେଇ ଆସି ନିଜକୁ ରକ୍ଷା କର।”

31 ପ୍ରଧାନଯାଜକ ଓ ଧର୍ମଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେଠାରେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ଥିଲେ। ଅନ୍ୟ ଲୋକମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଯେଭଳି ଭାବରେ ଥଟ୍ଟା କରୁଥିଲେ, ସେମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଠିକ୍ ସେହିଭଳି ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଥଟ୍ଟା କଲେ। ସେମାନେ କୁହାକୁହି ହେଉଥିଲେ, “ସେ ଅନ୍ୟକୁ ରକ୍ଷା କରୁଥିଲା, କିନ୍ତୁ ଏବେ ସେ ନିଜକୁ ରକ୍ଷା କରି ପାରିଲା ନାହିଁ। 32 ଯଦି ପ୍ରକୃତରେ ସେ ଖ୍ରୀଷ୍ଟ, ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ରାଜା, ତେବେ ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ସେ କ୍ରୁଶ ଉପରୁ ତଳକୁ ଓହ୍ଲେଇ ଆସୁ। ନିଜକୁ ରକ୍ଷା କରୁ। ତା'ହେଲେ ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ତାହା ଦେଖିବା ଓ ତାକୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କରିବା। ଯେଉଁମାନଙ୍କୁ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ସହିତ ପାଖରେ କ୍ରୁଶ ବିଦ୍ଧ କରାଯାଉଥିଲା, ସେମାନ ମଧ୍ୟ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ଅପମାନିତ କଲେ।

ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ

33 ଦ୍ୱିପ୍ରହର ବେଳକୁ ସମଗ୍ରଦେଶ ଉପରେ ଅନ୍ଧକାର ମାଡ଼ି ଆସିଲା। ଏହି ଅନ୍ଧକାର ଅପରାହ୍ନ ତିନିଟା ବେଳ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ରହିଲା। 34 ସେହି ସମୟରେ ଯୀଶୁ ବଡ଼ ପାଟିରେ କହି ଉଠିଲେ, “‌‌ଏଲୀ, ‌‌ଏଲୀ, ଲାମା ଶବ‌‌କ୍‌‌ଥାନୀ।” ଅର୍ଥାତ, “ହେ ମୋର ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, ହେ ମୋର ପରମେଶ୍ୱର, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମୋତେ କାହିଁକି ପରିତ୍ୟାଗ କଲ?”

35 ସେଠାରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଥିବା କେତେକ ଲୋକ ଏ କଥା ଶୁଣିଲେ। ସେମାନେ କହିଲେ, “ଶୁଣ, ସେ ଏଲିୟଙ୍କୁ ଡାକୁଛି।”

36 ସେଠାରୁ ଜଣେ ଲୋକ ଦୌଡ଼ିଯାଇ ଅମ୍ଳରସରେ ଭିଜାଇଥିବା ଗୋଟିଏ ସ୍ପ‌ଞ୍ଜ୍‌ଆଣିଲା। ସ୍ପ‌ଞ୍ଜ୍‌କୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ବାଡ଼ିରେ ବାନ୍ଧିଲା। ଯୀଶୁ ସ୍ପ‌ଞ୍ଜ୍‌ରୁ ଅମ୍ଳରସ ପିଇବେ ବୋଲି ସେ ବାଡ଼ିଟିର ସ୍ପ‌ଞ୍ଜ୍‌ ବନ୍ଧା ହୋଇଥିବା ପାଖଟି ତାହାଙ୍କ ଆଡ଼କୁ ବଢ଼ାଇଲା। ଲୋକଟି କହିଲା, “ଏବେ ଆମ୍ଭେ ଅପେକ୍ଷା କରିବା ଏବଂ ଏଲିୟ ଆସି ତାକୁ କ୍ରୁଶ ଉପରୁ ତଳକୁ ନେବାକୁ ଆସୁଛନ୍ତି କି ନାହିଁ, ଦେଖିବା।”

37 ତା'ପରେ ଯୀଶୁ ଉଚ୍ଚ ସ୍ୱରରେ ପାଟି କରି ପ୍ରାଣତ୍ୟାଗ କଲେ।

38 ଯୀଶୁ ଯେତେବେଳେ ପ୍ରାଣତ୍ୟାଗ କଲେ, ସେତେବେଳେ ମନ୍ଦିରର ପରଦା ଉପରୁ ତଳ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଦୁଇଖଣ୍ଡ ହୋଇ ଚିରିଗଲା। 39 କ୍ରୁଶ ଆଗରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଥିବା ସେନାପତି ଯୀଶୁ କିପରି ପ୍ରାଣତ୍ୟାଗ କଲେ, ତାହା ଦେଖିଲେ। ସେ କହିଲେ, “ପ୍ରକୃତରେ ଏହି ଲୋକ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ପୁତ୍ର ଥିଲେ।”

40 କେତେକ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଲୋକ କ୍ରୁଶଠାରୁ କିଛି ଦୂରରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇ ଦେଖୁଥିଲେ। ସେମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ମ‌ଗ୍‌ଦଲୀନୀ ସହରରୁ ଆସିଥିବା ମରିୟମ, ଶଲୋମୀ, ଯାକୁବ ଓ ଯୋସିଙ୍କ ମା ମରିୟମ ଥିଲେ। ଯାକୁବ ମରିୟମଙ୍କର ସାନ ପୁଅ ଥିଲା। 41 ଏହି ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଲୋକମାନେ ଯୀଶୁ ଗାଲିଲୀରେ ଥିବା ବେଳେ ତାହାଙ୍କର ସହିତ ଥିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ତାହାଙ୍କର ସେବାଯତ୍ନ କରୁଥିଲେ। ଅନ୍ୟ ଅନେକ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀଲୋକ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେଠାରେ ଥିଲେ। ସେମାନେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଯିରୁଶାଲମକୁ ଆସିଥିଲେ।

ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ସମାଧି ଦିଆଗଲା

(ମାଥିଉ 27:57-61; ଲୂକ 23:50-56; ଯୋହନ 19:38-42)

42 ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟା ହୋଇଯାଇଥିଲା। ଏହି ଦିନଟି ଆୟୋଜନ ଦିବସ (ବିଶ୍ରାମ ଦିବସର ପୂର୍ବ ଦିନ) ଥିଲା। 43 ହାରାମାଥୀୟାର ଯିହୂଦୀ ଯୋସେଫ ମହାସଭାର ଜଣେ ସମ୍ମାନିତ ସଦସ୍ୟ ଥିଲେ ଓ ସେ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ରାଜ୍ୟ ଆସୁ ବୋଲି ଗ୍ଭହୁଁଥିଲେ। ସେ ସାହସର ସହିତ ପୀଲାତଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ଯାଇ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ଶବକୁ ମାଗିଲେ।

44 ଯୀଶୁ ଏତେ ଶୀଘ୍ର ମରି ଯାଇ ସାରିଲେଣି ଶୁଣି ପୀଲାତ ବହୁତ ଆଶ୍ଚର୍ଯ୍ୟ ହୋଇଗଲେ। ସେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଜଗିଥିବା ସେନାପତିଙ୍କୁ ଡକାଇଲେ। ପୀଲାତ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ଯୀଶୁ ମରି ସାରିଲେଣି କି ନାହିଁ ପଗ୍ଭରିଲେ। 45 ସେନାପତି ଜଣକ ପୀଲାତଙ୍କୁ ଯୀଶୁ ପ୍ରାଣତ୍ୟାଗ କରି ସାରିଥିବା କଥା କହିଲେ। ତା'ପରେ ପୀଲାତ ଯୋସେଫଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ ଯେ, ସେ ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କ ଶବ ନେଇ ଯାଇ ପାରିବେ।

46 ଯୋସେଫ ଖଣ୍ଡିଏ ବସ୍ତ୍ର କିଣିଲେ। ସେ ଶବକୁ କ୍ରୁଶ ଉପରୁ ତଳକୁ ଓହ୍ଲେଇ ଆଣିଲେ। ସେ ଶବକୁ ବସ୍ତ୍ରରେ ସମ୍ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଘୋଡ଼େଇ ଦେଲେ ଓ ପଥର କଟା ହୋଇ ତିଆରି ହୋଇଥିବା ଗୋଟିଏ କବରରେ ତାହାଙ୍କୁ ରଖିଦେଲେ। ଖଣ୍ଡିଏ ବଡ଼ ପଥର ଗଡ଼େଇ ଆଣି କବରର ମୁହଁକୁ ବନ୍ଦ କରିଦେଲେ। 47 ମ‌ଗ୍‌ଦଲୀନୀ ମରିୟମ ଓ ଯୋସିଙ୍କ ମା ଯୀଶୁଙ୍କୁ ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ରଖାଗଲା, ସେହି ସ୍ଥାନଟି ଦେଖିଲେ।

Jesus Before Pilate(A)

15 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law(B) and the whole Sanhedrin,(C) made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.(D)

2 “Are you the king of the Jews?”(E) asked Pilate.

“You have said so,” Jesus replied.

3 The chief priests accused him of many things. 4 So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”

5 But Jesus still made no reply,(F) and Pilate was amazed.

6 Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.

9 “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”(G) asked Pilate, 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas(H) instead.

12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.

13 “Crucify him!” they shouted.

14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”

15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged,(I) and handed him over to be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus(J)

16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace(K) (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”(L) 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out(M) to crucify him.

The Crucifixion of Jesus(N)

21 A certain man from Cyrene,(O) Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus,(P) was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.(Q) 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh,(R) but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots(S) to see what each would get.

25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. 26 The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews.(T)

27 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left. [28] [a] 29 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(U) and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(V) 30 come down from the cross and save yourself!” 31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him(W) among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! 32 Let this Messiah,(X) this king of Israel,(Y) come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The Death of Jesus(Z)

33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.(AA) 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b](AB)

35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”

36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar,(AC) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.

37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.(AD)

38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.(AE) 39 And when the centurion,(AF) who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[c] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”(AG)

40 Some women were watching from a distance.(AH) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[d] and Salome.(AI) 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.(AJ)

The Burial of Jesus(AK)

42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath).(AL) So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council,(AM) who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,(AN) went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion(AO) that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.(AP) 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph(AQ) saw where he was laid.

2 Then Pilate asked Him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And He answered, and said to him, “You have said so.”

3 And the chief priests accused Him of many things.

4 So Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do you answer nothing? Behold how many things they witness against You.”

5 But Jesus answered no more at all, so that Pilate marveled.

6 Now at the feast, Pilate would deliver a prisoner to them, whoever they desired.

7 And there was one named Barabbas (who was bound with his fellows) who had made insurrection, during which he had committed murder.

8 And the people cried aloud and began to desire that Pilate would do as he had always done for them.

9 Then Pilate answered them, and said, “Should I release to you the King of the Jews?”

10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered Him out of envy.

11 But the chief priests had incited the people to desire Barabbas.

12 And Pilate answered, and said to them again, “What then shall I do with Him Whom you call the King of the Jews?”

13 And they cried again, “Crucify Him!”

14 Then Pilate said to them, “But, what evil has He done?” And they cried even more fervently, “Crucify Him!”

15 So Pilate, willing to content the people, gave them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus - once he had scourged Him - to be crucified.

16 Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall (which is the common hall) and called together the whole band,

17 and clothed Him with purple, and put a crown of thorns on His head,

18 and began to salute Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

19 And they struck Him on the head with a reed, and spit on Him, and bowed their knees, and did Him reverence.

20 And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, and put His own clothes back on, and led Him out to crucify Him.

21 And they compelled one who passed by called Simon of Cyrene (who came out of the country and was father of Alexander and Rufus) to bear His cross.

22 And they brought Him to a place named Golgotha (which is by interpretation, ‘Place of Dead Mens’ Skulls’).

23 And they gave Him wine to drink, mingled with myrrh. But He did not receive it.

24 And when they had crucified Him, they parted His garments, casting lots for what every man should have.

25 And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.

26 And the title of His cause was written above, ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS.’

27 They also crucified two thieves with Him, one on the right and the other on His left.

28 Thus the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was counted among the wicked.”

29 And those who passed by railed on Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Hey, You who would destroy the Temple, and build it in three days,

30 save Yourself! And come down from the cross!”

31 Likewise even the chief priests, also mocking, said among themselves with the scribes, “He saved other men! Himself He cannot save!

32 “Let Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him also reviled Him.

33 Now, when the sixth hour had come, darkness arose over all the land until the ninth hour.

34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama-sabachthani?” Which is by interpretation, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

35 And some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, “Behold, He calls Elijah!”

40 There were also women who watched from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome,

41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

42 And now when the night had come (because it was the Day of the Preparation that is before the Sabbath)

43 Joseph of Arimathea, an honorable councilman, who also looked for the Kingdom of God, went in boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

44 And Pilate was surprised that He was already dead. So, he called the centurion and asked him whether He were indeed dead.

45 And when he knew the truth from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph;

46 who bought a linen cloth, and took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb that was hewn out of a rock; and rolled a stone over the door of the sepulcher.

47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary Joses’ mother beheld where He was laid.
