Mort et résurrection de Jésus 14.1–16.20

Complot contre Jésus

14 La fête de la Pâque et des pains sans levain devait avoir lieu deux jours après. Les chefs des prêtres et les spécialistes de la loi cherchaient les moyens d'arrêter Jésus par ruse et de le faire mourir. 2 Ils se disaient en effet: «Que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, afin qu'il n'y ait pas d’agitation parmi le peuple.»

Une femme verse du parfum sur Jésus

3 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux, une femme entra pendant qu'il se trouvait à table. Elle tenait un vase qui contenait un parfum de nard[a] pur très cher. Elle brisa le vase et versa le parfum sur la tête de Jésus. 4 Quelques-uns exprimèrent leur indignation entre eux: «A quoi bon gaspiller ce parfum? 5 On aurait pu le vendre plus de 300 pièces d’argent et les donner aux pauvres» et ils s'irritaient contre cette femme. 6 Mais Jésus dit: «Laissez-la. Pourquoi lui faites-vous de la peine? Elle a fait une bonne action envers moi. 7 En effet, vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous et vous pouvez leur faire du bien quand vous le voulez, mais vous ne m'aurez pas toujours. 8 Elle a fait ce qu'elle a pu, elle a d'avance parfumé mon corps pour l'ensevelissement. 9 Je vous le dis en vérité, partout où cette bonne nouvelle sera proclamée, dans le monde entier, on racontera aussi en souvenir de cette femme ce qu'elle a fait.»

10 Judas l'Iscariot, l'un des douze, alla vers les chefs des prêtres afin de leur livrer Jésus. 11 Ils se réjouirent en l’entendant et promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Quant à Judas, il se mit à chercher une occasion favorable pour le trahir.

Institution de la cène

12 Le premier jour des pains sans levain, où l'on sacrifiait l'agneau pascal, les disciples de Jésus lui dirent: «Où veux-tu que nous allions te préparer le repas de la Pâque[b]?» 13 Il envoya deux de ses disciples et leur dit: «Allez à la ville. Vous rencontrerez un homme qui porte une cruche d'eau: suivez-le. 14 Là où il entrera, dites au propriétaire de la maison: ‘Le maître dit: Où est la salle où je mangerai la Pâque avec mes disciples?’ 15 Alors il vous montrera une grande chambre à l'étage, aménagée et toute prête: c'est là que vous nous préparerez la Pâque.» 16 Ses disciples partirent, arrivèrent à la ville et trouvèrent tout comme il le leur avait dit, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.

17 Le soir venu, il s’y rendit avec les douze. 18 Pendant qu'ils étaient à table et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus dit: «Je vous le dis en vérité, l'un de vous, qui mange avec moi, me trahira.» 19 Ils devinrent tout tristes et lui dirent l'un après l'autre: «Est-ce moi?» 20 Il leur répondit: «C'est l'un des douze, celui qui met la main dans le plat avec moi. 21 Le Fils de l'homme s'en va conformément à ce qui est écrit à son sujet, mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme qu'il ne soit pas né.»

22 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain et, après avoir prononcé la prière de bénédiction, il le rompit et le leur donna en disant: «Prenez, [mangez,] ceci est mon corps.» 23 Il prit ensuite une coupe et, après avoir remercié Dieu, il la leur donna et ils en burent tous. 24 Il leur dit: «Ceci est mon sang, le sang de la [nouvelle] alliance, qui est versé pour beaucoup. 25 Je vous le dis en vérité, je ne boirai plus jamais du fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le royaume de Dieu.»

26 Après avoir chanté les psaumes, ils se rendirent au mont des Oliviers. 27 Jésus leur dit: «Vous trébucherez tous, [cette nuit, à cause de moi,] car il est écrit: Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis seront dispersées.[c] 28 Mais, après ma résurrection, je vous précéderai en Galilée.» 29 Pierre lui dit: «Même si tous trébuchent, ce ne sera pas mon cas.» 30 Jésus lui dit: «Je te le dis en vérité, aujourd'hui, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante [deux fois], toi, tu me renieras trois fois.» 31 Mais Pierre reprit plus fortement: «Même s'il me faut mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas.» Et tous dirent la même chose.

Arrestation de Jésus

32 Ils se rendirent ensuite dans un endroit appelé Gethsémané, et Jésus dit à ses disciples: «Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je prierai.» 33 Il prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à être saisi de frayeur et d’angoisse. 34 Il leur dit: «Mon âme est triste à en mourir; restez ici, éveillés.» 35 Puis il avança de quelques pas, se jeta contre terre et pria que, si cela était possible, cette heure s'éloigne de lui. 36 Il disait: «Abba, Père, tout t'est possible. Eloigne de moi cette coupe! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.» 37 Il vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis, et il dit à Pierre: «Simon, tu dors! Tu n'as pas pu rester éveillé une seule heure! 38 Restez vigilants et priez pour ne pas céder à la tentation. L'esprit est bien disposé, mais par nature l’homme est faible.» 39 Il s'éloigna de nouveau et fit la même prière. 40 Il revint et les trouva encore endormis, car ils avaient les paupières lourdes. Ils ne surent que lui répondre. 41 Il revint pour la troisième fois et leur dit: «Vous dormez maintenant et vous vous reposez! C'est assez! L'heure est venue; voici que le Fils de l'homme est livré entre les mains des pécheurs. 42 Levez-vous, allons-y! Celui qui me trahit s'approche.»

43 Il parlait encore quand soudain arriva Judas, l'un des douze, avec une foule armée d'épées et de bâtons envoyée par les chefs des prêtres, par les spécialistes de la loi et par les anciens. 44 Celui qui le trahissait leur avait donné ce signe: «L’homme auquel je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui. Arrêtez-le et emmenez-le sous bonne garde!» 45 Dès qu'il fut arrivé, il s'approcha de Jésus en disant: «Maître!» et il l'embrassa. 46 Alors ces gens mirent la main sur Jésus et l'arrêtèrent.

47 Un de ceux qui étaient là tira l'épée, frappa le serviteur du grand-prêtre et lui emporta l'oreille. 48 Jésus prit la parole et leur dit: «Vous êtes venus vous emparer de moi avec des épées et des bâtons, comme pour un brigand. 49 J'étais tous les jours parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté. Mais c'est afin que les Ecritures soient accomplies.»

50 Alors tous l'abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite. 51 Un jeune homme le suivait, habillé d’un simple drap. On l'attrapa, 52 mais il lâcha le drap et se sauva tout nu.

Jésus devant le conseil juif

53 Ils emmenèrent Jésus chez le grand-prêtre, où se rassemblèrent tous les chefs des prêtres, les anciens et les spécialistes de la loi. 54 Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à l'intérieur de la cour du grand-prêtre; il s'assit avec les serviteurs et il se chauffait près du feu.

55 Les chefs des prêtres et tout le sanhédrin[d] cherchaient un témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir, et ils n'en trouvaient pas. 56 Beaucoup rendaient en effet de faux témoignages contre lui, mais les témoignages n’étaient pas concordants. 57 Quelques-uns se levèrent et portèrent un faux témoignage contre lui en disant: 58 «Nous l'avons entendu dire: ‘Je détruirai ce temple fait par la main de l'homme, et en trois jours j'en construirai un autre qui ne sera pas fait de main d'homme.’» 59 Même sur ce point-là, leurs témoignages ne concordaient pas. 60 Alors le grand-prêtre se leva au milieu de l'assemblée et interrogea Jésus en disant: «Ne réponds-tu rien? Pourquoi ces gens témoignent-ils contre toi?» 61 Mais Jésus gardait le silence et ne répondit rien. Le grand-prêtre l'interrogea de nouveau et lui dit: «Es-tu le Messie, le Fils du Dieu béni?» 62 Jésus répondit: «Je le suis. Et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite du Tout-Puissant et venant sur les nuées du ciel.[e]» 63 Alors le grand-prêtre déchira ses vêtements et dit: «Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? 64 Vous avez entendu le blasphème. Qu'en pensez-vous?» Tous le condamnèrent, déclarant qu’il méritait la mort. 65 Quelques-uns se mirent à cracher sur lui, à lui mettre un voile sur le visage et à le frapper à coups de poing en lui disant: «Devine!» Même les serviteurs le frappaient en lui donnant des gifles.

66 Pendant que Pierre était en bas dans la cour, une des servantes du grand-prêtre arriva. 67 Elle vit Pierre qui se chauffait, le regarda et lui dit: «Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus de Nazareth.» 68 Il le nia en disant: «Je ne sais ni ne comprends ce que tu veux dire.» Puis il sortit pour aller dans le vestibule. [Alors un coq chanta.] 69 La servante le vit et se mit à dire de nouveau à ceux qui étaient présents: «Il fait partie de ces gens-là.» Il le nia de nouveau. 70 Peu après, ceux qui étaient présents dirent encore à Pierre: «Certainement, tu fais partie de ces gens-là, car tu es galiléen, [tu as le même langage].» 71 Alors il se mit à jurer en lançant des malédictions: «Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez.» 72 [Aussitôt,] pour la seconde fois, un coq chanta. Pierre se souvint alors de ce que Jésus lui avait dit: «Avant que le coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois.» Et en y réfléchissant, il pleurait.

The Plot to Kill Jesus

14 (A)Now (B)the Passover and Unleavened Bread were two days away; and the chief priests and the scribes (C)were seeking how, after seizing Him in secret, they might kill Him; 2 for they were saying, “Not during the festival, lest there be a riot of the people.”

The Costly Perfume

3 (D)And while He was in (E)Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster jar of perfume of very (F)costly pure [a]nard; and she broke the jar and poured it over His head. 4 But some were indignantly remarking to one another, “Why has this perfume been wasted? 5 For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred [b]denarii and given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. 6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She did a good work to Me. 7 For you always have (G)the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. 8 She has done what she could; (H)she anointed My body beforehand for the burial. 9 And truly I say to you, (I)wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what this woman did will also be spoken of in memory of her.”

10 (J)Then Judas Iscariot, (K)who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests in order to [c]betray Him to them. 11 And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time.

The Passover Meal

12 (L)And on the first day of (M)Unleavened Bread, when [d]the Passover lamb was being (N)sacrificed, His disciples *said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 13 And He *sent two of His disciples and *said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; 14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My (O)guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 15 And he himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.” 16 And the disciples went out and came to the city, and found it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

17 (P)And when it was evening He *came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will [e]betray Me—the one who is eating with Me.” 19 They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” 20 And He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, the one who dips with Me in the bowl. 21 For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man [f]by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good [g]for that man if he had not been born.”

The Lord’s Supper

22 (Q)And while they were eating, He took some bread, and [h]after a (R)blessing, He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My (S)blood of the (T)covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

26 (U)And after singing a hymn, they went out to (V)the Mount of Olives.

27 (W)And Jesus *said to them, “You will all [i]fall away, because it is written, ‘(X)I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.’ 28 But after I have been raised, (Y)I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 29 But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may [j]fall away, yet I will not.” 30 And Jesus *said to him, “Truly I say to you, that (Z)today, this very night, before (AA)a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.” 31 But Peter kept saying insistently, “If I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing also.

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

32 (AB)Then they *came to a place named Gethsemane; and He *said to His disciples, “Sit here until I have prayed.” 33 And He *took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be very (AC)distressed and troubled. 34 And He *said to them, “(AD)My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.” 35 And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began to pray that if it were possible, (AE)the hour might pass from Him. 36 And He was saying, “(AF)Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; (AG)yet not what I will, but what You will.” 37 And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not keep watch for one hour? 38 (AH)Keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And again He went away and prayed, saying the same [k]words. 40 And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him. 41 And He *came the third time, and *said to them, “[l]Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough; (AI)the hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being [m]betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Get up, let us go; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”

The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

43 (AJ)And immediately while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up, and with him was a crowd with swords and clubs, who were from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him and lead Him away [n]under guard.” 45 And after coming, Judas, having immediately gone to Him, *said, “(AK)Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 46 And they laid hands on Him and seized Him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and [o]cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a robber? 49 Every day I was with you (AL)in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me; but this has taken place in order that the Scriptures would be fulfilled.” 50 And they all left Him and fled.

51 And a young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52 But he [p]pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.

Jesus Before His Accusers

53 (AM)Then they led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes *gathered together. 54 And Peter followed Him at a distance, (AN)right into (AO)the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the [q]officers and (AP)warming himself at the [r]fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole [s](AQ)Sanhedrin were seeking to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56 For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent. 57 And some, standing up, were giving false testimony against Him, saying, 58 “We ourselves heard Him say, ‘(AR)I will destroy this [t]sanctuary made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’” 59 And not even in this way was their testimony consistent. 60 And the high priest stood up in their midst and questioned Jesus, saying, “You answer nothing? What are these men testifying against You?” 61 (AS)But He kept silent and did not answer. (AT)Again the high priest was questioning Him and *said to Him, “Are You the [u]Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see (AU)the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and (AV)coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 (AW)And tearing his tunics, the high priest *said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the (AX)blasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. 65 And some began to (AY)spit at Him, and [v](AZ)to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, “(BA)Prophesy!” And the officers [w]received Him with [x]slaps in the face.

Peter’s Denials

66 (BB)And as Peter was below in (BC)the courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest *came, 67 and seeing Peter (BD)warming himself, she looked at him and *said, “You also were with the (BE)Nazarene, Jesus.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are talking about.” And he (BF)went out into the entryway.[y] 69 And when the servant-girl saw him, she began once more to say to the bystanders, “This is one of them!” 70 But again (BG)he was denying it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, (BH)for you are also a Galilean.” 71 But he began to [z]curse and swear, “I do not know this man you are talking about!” 72 And immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said the statement to him, “Before (BI)a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” [aa]And throwing himself down, he began to cry.

14 Dalawang araw na lang noon bago sumapit ang Pista ng Paglampas ng Anghel[a] at Pista ng Tinapay na Walang Pampaalsa. Ang mga namamahalang pari at ang mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan ay naghahanap ng pagkakataon upang lihim nilang madakip at maipapatay si Jesus. 2 Sinabi nila, “Huwag nating gawin sa pista dahil baka magkagulo ang mga tao.”

Binuhusan ng Pabango si Jesus(B)

3 Nang si Jesus ay nasa Betania, habang kumakain siya sa bahay ni Simon na dating may malubhang sakit sa balat, dumating ang isang babae. May dala siyang mamahaling pabango na nasa isang sisidlang yari sa batong alabastro. Ang pabangong ito ay puro at mula sa tanim na “nardo.” Binasag niya ang leeg ng sisidlan at saka ibinuhos ang pabango sa ulo ni Jesus. 4 Nagalit ang ilang tao na naroon. Binuhusan niya ng pabango ang katawan ko bilang paghahanda sa aking libing. 9 Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, kahit saan man ipapangaral ang Magandang Balita sa buong mundo, ipapahayag din ang ginawa niyang ito sa akin bilang pag-alaala sa kanya.”

10 Si Judas Iscariote na isa sa 12 tagasunod ay pumunta sa mga namamahalang pari upang ipagkanulo si Jesus. 11 Natuwa sila nang malaman nila ang pakay ni Judas, at nangako silang bibigyan siya ng pera. Kaya mula noon, humanap si Judas ng pagkakataon upang maibigay si Jesus sa kanila.

Sundan ninyo siya sa bahay na papasukan niya, at sabihin ninyo sa may-ari ng bahay, ‘Ipinapatanong po ng Guro kung saan ang kwartong kakainan niya ng hapunan na kasama ang mga tagasunod niya upang ipagdiwang ang Pista ng Paglampas ng Anghel.’ 15 Ituturo niya sa inyo ang isang malaking kwarto sa itaas, kumpleto na ng kagamitan at nakahanda na. Doon kayo maghanda ng hapunan natin.” 16 Umalis ang dalawa niyang tagasunod. At nang dumating sila sa lungsod, nakita nila ang lahat ayon sa sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila. At inihanda nila roon ang hapunan para sa pista.

17 Kinagabihan, dumating si Jesus at ang 12 tagasunod. 18 Habang kumakain na sila sa mesa, sinabi ni Jesus, “Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, ang isa sa inyo na kasalo ko sa pagkain ay magtatraydor sa akin.” 19 Nalungkot sila nang marinig ito, at isa-isa silang nagtanong sa kanya, “Hindi ako iyon, di po ba?” 20 Sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Isa siya sa inyong 12 na kasabay kong nagsasawsaw ng tinapay sa mangkok. 21 Ako na Anak ng Tao ay papatayin ayon sa sinasabi ng Kasulatan, ngunit nakakaawa ang taong magtatraydor sa akin. Mabuti pang hindi na siya ipinanganak.”

Huling Hapunan ni Jesus(E)

22 Habang kumakain sila, kumuha ng tinapay si Jesus. Nagpasalamat siya sa Dios at pagkatapos ay hinati-hati niya ito at ibinigay sa mga tagasunod niya at sinabi, “Kunin ninyo at kainin; ito ang aking katawan.” 23 Pagkatapos, kumuha siya ng inumin,[b] nagpasalamat sa Dios, at ibinigay sa kanila. At uminom silang lahat. 24 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Ito ang aking dugo na ibubuhos para sa maraming tao. Ito ang katibayan ng bagong kasunduan ng Dios sa mga tao. 25 Sinasabi ko sa inyo ang totoo, hindi na ako muling iinom ng inuming mula sa ubas hanggang sa araw ng paghahari ng Dios. At sa araw na iyon, iinom ako ng bagong klase ng inumin.” 26 Umawit sila ng papuri sa Dios at pagkatapos ay pumunta sila sa Bundok ng mga Olibo.

Sinabi ni Jesus na Ikakaila Siya ni Pedro(F)

27 Sinabi ni Jesus sa mga tagasunod niya, “Iiwan ninyo akong lahat, dahil sinabi ng Dios sa Kasulatan, ‘Papatayin ko ang pastol at magsisipangalat ang mga tupa.’[c] 28 Ngunit pagkatapos na ako ay muling mabuhay, mauuna ako sa inyo sa Galilea.” 29 Sinabi ni Pedro kay Jesus, “Kahit iwanan po kayo ng lahat, hindi ko kayo iiwan.” 30 Sinagot siya ni Jesus, “Sinasabi ko sa iyo ang totoo, bago tumilaok ang manok nang pangalawang beses ngayong gabi, tatlong beses mong ikakaila na kilala mo ako.” 31 Pero iginiit pa rin ni Pedro, “Hinding-hindi ko kayo ikakaila, kahit na patayin pa akong kasama ninyo.” At ganoon din ang sinabi ng iba pa niyang kasamahan.

Nanalangin si Jesus sa Getsemane(G)

32 Pagkatapos, pumunta sila sa isang lugar na tinatawag na Getsemane. Pagdating nila roon, sinabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Maupo kayo rito habang nananalangin ako.” 33 Isinama niya sina Pedro, Santiago, at Juan sa di-kalayuan. Balisang-balisa at nababahala si Jesus. 34 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Para akong mamamatay sa labis na kalungkutan. Dito lang kayo at magpuyat.” 35 Lumayo siya nang kaunti, lumuhod sa lupa at nanalangin na kung maaari ay huwag na niyang danasin ang paghihirap na kanyang haharapin. 36 Sinabi niya, “Ama, magagawa nʼyo ang lahat ng bagay. Kung maaari, ilayo nʼyo sa akin ang mga paghihirap na darating.[d] Ngunit hindi ang kalooban ko ang masunod kundi ang kalooban ninyo.”

37 Binalikan ni Jesus ang tatlo niyang tagasunod at dinatnan silang natutulog. Sinabi niya kay Pedro, “Simon, natutulog ka ba? Hindi ka ba makapagpuyat kahit isang oras lang?” 38 At sinabi niya sa kanila, “Magpuyat kayo at manalangin para hindi kayo madaig ng tukso. Ang espiritu ay handang sumunod, ngunit mahina ang laman.”[e]

39 Muling lumayo si Jesus at nanalangin. Ganoon pa rin ang kanyang dalangin. 40 Pagkatapos, muli niyang binalikan ang mga tagasunod niya at nadatnan na naman niya silang natutulog, dahil antok na antok na sila. At nang gisingin sila ni Jesus, nahiya sila at hindi nila alam kung ano ang sasabihin nila kay Jesus. 41 Sa ikatlong pagbalik ni Jesus, sinabi niya sa kanila, “Natutulog pa rin ba kayo at nagpapahinga? Tama na iyan! Dumating na ang oras na ako na Anak ng Tao ay ipagkakanulo sa mga makasalanan. 42 Tayo na! Narito na ang nagtatraydor sa akin.”

Ang Pagdakip kay Jesus(H)

43 Nagsasalita pa si Jesus nang biglang dumating si Judas na isa sa 12 tagasunod. Marami siyang kasama na armado ng mga espada at pamalo. Isinugo sila ng mga namamahalang pari, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at ng mga pinuno ng mga Judio. 44 Ganito ang palatandaan na ibinigay ng traydor na si Judas sa mga huhuli kay Jesus: “Ang babatiin ko sa pamamagitan ng isang halik ang siyang pakay ninyo. Dakpin ninyo siya at dalhin, at bantayang mabuti.”

45 Kaya nang dumating si Judas, agad siyang lumapit kay Jesus at bumati, “Guro!” sabay halik sa kanya. 46 At dinakip agad ng mga tao si Jesus. 47 Bumunot ng espada ang isa sa mga tagasunod ni Jesus at tinaga ang alipin ng punong pari, at naputol ang tainga nito. 48 Sinabi ni Jesus sa mga humuli sa kanya, “Isa ba akong tulisan? Bakit kailangan pa ninyong magdala ng mga espada at mga pamalo para dakpin ako? 49 Araw-araw ay nasa templo ako at nagtuturo, at naroon din kayo. Bakit hindi ninyo ako dinakip? Ngunit kailangang mangyari ito upang matupad ang sinasabi ng Kasulatan tungkol sa akin.” 50 Iniwan siya noon din ng mga tagasunod niya at nagsitakas sila.

51 May isang binata roon na sumunod kay Jesus na nakabalabal lang ng telang linen. Dinakip din siya ng mga sundalo, 52 pero nakawala siya at tumakas nang hubad, dahil nahawakan nila ang kanyang balabal.

Dinala si Jesus sa Korte ng mga Judio(I)

53 Dinala nila si Jesus sa bahay ng punong pari. Nagtipon doon ang lahat ng namamahalang pari, mga pinuno ng mga Judio at ang mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. 54 Sumunod din doon si Pedro, pero malayu-layo siya kay Jesus. Pumasok siya sa bakuran ng bahay ng punong pari at nakiupo sa mga guwardya na nagpapainit sa tabi ng apoy. 55 Doon sa loob, ang mga namamahalang pari at ang lahat ng miyembro ng Korte ng mga Judio ay nagsisikap na makakuha ng mga ebidensya laban kay Jesus upang mahatulan siya ng kamatayan. Pero wala silang makuha. 56 Marami ang sumasaksi ng kasinungalingan laban kay Jesus, pero magkakasalungat naman ang mga sinasabi nila.

57 May ilang sumasaksi ng kasinungalingang ito laban kay Jesus. Sinabi nila, 58 “Narinig po naming sinabi niya, ‘Gigibain ko ang templong ito na gawa ng tao, at sa loob ng tatlong araw ay magtatayo ako ng ibang templo na hindi gawa ng tao!’ ” 59 Pero hindi rin magkakatugma ang sinasabi nila.

60 Tumayo sa gitna ang punong pari at tinanong si Jesus, “Wala ka bang maisasagot sa mga paratang na ito laban sa iyo?” 61 Hindi sumagot si Jesus. Kaya tinanong siyang muli ng punong pari, “Ikaw ba ang Cristo na Anak ng Kapuri-puring Dios?” 62 Sumagot si Jesus, “Ako nga, at ako na Anak ng Tao ay makikita ninyong nakaupo sa kanan ng makapangyarihang Dios. At makikita rin ninyo ako sa mga ulap na paparating dito sa mundo.” 63 Nang marinig ito ng punong pari, pinunit niya ang kanyang damit sa galit at sinabi, “Hindi na natin kailangan ng mga saksi! 64 Narinig ninyo ang paglapastangan niya sa Dios. Ano ngayon ang hatol ninyo?” At hinatulan nila si Jesus ng kamatayan.

65 Dinuraan siya ng ilang naroon. Piniringan din siya at sinuntok, at tinanong, “Sige nga, hulaan mo kung sino ang sumuntok sa iyo?” Pagkatapos, kinuha siya ng mga guwardya at pinagbubugbog.

Ipinagkaila ni Pedro na Kilala Niya si Jesus(J)

66 Nang si Pedro ay nasa loob pa ng bakuran, dumaan ang isang babaeng utusan ng punong pari. 67 Nang makita niya si Pedro na nagpapainit malapit sa apoy, tinitigan niya ito at sinabi, “Kasama ka rin ni Jesus na taga-Nazaret, hindi ba?” 68 Pero itinanggi ito ni Pedro, “Hindi ko alam ang sinasabi mo.” Pagkatapos, umalis siya roon at pumunta sa may labasan, at noon din ay tumilaok ang manok. 69 Nakita na naman siya roon ng babaeng utusan, kaya sinabi ng babae sa mga taong naroon, “Ang taong iyan ay isa rin sa mga kasamahan ni Jesus.” 70 Pero muling itinanggi ito ni Pedro. Maya-maya, sinabi ng mga taong naroon, “Isa ka nga sa mga kasamahan niya, dahil taga-Galilea ka rin!” 71 Pero sumumpa si Pedro, “Kahit mamatay man ako, hindi ko talaga kilala ang taong sinasabi ninyo.” 72 Noon din ay muling tumilaok ang manok, at naalala ni Pedro ang sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Bago tumilaok ang manok ng dalawang beses, tatlong beses mong ikakaila na kilala mo ako.” At humagulgol siya.

Jesus Anointed at Bethany(A)(B)(C)

14 Now the Passover(D) and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.(E) 2 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”

3 While he was in Bethany,(F) reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.(G)

4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.

6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want.(H) But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.(I) 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world,(J) what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,(K) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.(L) 11 They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

The Last Supper(M)(N)

12 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb,(O) Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”

13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs,(P) furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”

16 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”

19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”

20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me.(Q) 21 The Son of Man(R) will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it(S) and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”

23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.(T)

24 “This is my blood of the[c] covenant,(U) which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”(V)

26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(W)

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial(X)

27 “You will all fall away,” Jesus told them, “for it is written:

“‘I will strike the shepherd,
    and the sheep will be scattered.’[d](Y)

28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”(Z)

29 Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.”

30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice[e] you yourself will disown me three times.”(AA)

31 But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you,(AB) I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.

Gethsemane(AC)

32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John(AD) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”(AE) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”

35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour(AF) might pass from him. 36 “Abba,[f] Father,”(AG) he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup(AH) from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”(AI)

37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.(AJ) The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(AK)

39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.

41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour(AL) has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Jesus Arrested(AM)

43 Just as he was speaking, Judas,(AN) one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.

44 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.” 45 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!”(AO) and kissed him. 46 The men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47 Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

48 “Am I leading a rebellion,” said Jesus, “that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Every day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts,(AP) and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”(AQ) 50 Then everyone deserted him and fled.(AR)

51 A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, 52 he fled naked, leaving his garment behind.

Jesus Before the Sanhedrin(AS)(AT)

53 They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. 54 Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest.(AU) There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire.(AV)

55 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(AW) were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find any. 56 Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.

57 Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,(AX) not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even then their testimony did not agree.

60 Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 61 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.(AY)

Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”(AZ)

62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(BA)

63 The high priest tore his clothes.(BB) “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64 “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?”

They all condemned him as worthy of death.(BC) 65 Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.(BD)

Peter Disowns Jesus(BE)

66 While Peter was below in the courtyard,(BF) one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. 67 When she saw Peter warming himself,(BG) she looked closely at him.

“You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus,”(BH) she said.

68 But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,”(BI) he said, and went out into the entryway.[g]

69 When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70 Again he denied it.(BJ)

After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”(BK)

71 He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”(BL)

72 Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.[h] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice[i] you will disown me three times.”(BM) And he broke down and wept.
