But God said unto me, ‘Thou shalt not build a house for My name, because thou hast been a man of war and hast shed blood.’

but the Lord has refused to let me build it, because he said I have killed too many people in battle.
But God said to me, Thou shalt not build a house unto my name, for thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.

But God said to me, ‘No David, you must not build a house for my name. You must not do that because you are a soldier, and you have killed many men.’
But God said to me, “You are a fighter and you have killed many people in war. So you must not build a house to give honour to my name.”
But God said to me, “You will not build a house for my name because you are a man of war, and you have shed blood.”
But God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You must not build a ·temple [L house] for ·worshiping me [my name/Name], because you are a ·soldier [man of war] and have ·killed many people [shed blood; C he completed the conquest of Canaan].’

But God told me, ‘You must not build the temple for my name. You have fought wars and caused bloodshed.’
but he has forbidden me to do it, because I am a soldier and have shed too much blood.
but God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You must not build a temple for worship to me. You must not do that because you are a soldier. You have killed many men.’
But then God told me, ‘You will not build a temple to my name, because you are a man of war, and you have committed bloodshed.’
But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build a house for my name because thou hast been a man of war and hast shed blood.

King David stood tall and spoke: “Listen to me, my people: I fully intended to build a permanent structure for the Chest of the Covenant of God, God’s footstool. But when I got ready to build it, God said to me, ‘You may not build a house to honor me—you’ve done too much fighting—killed too many people.’ God chose me out of my family to be king over Israel forever. First he chose Judah as the lead tribe, then he narrowed it down to my family, and finally he picked me from my father’s sons, pleased to make me the king over all Israel. And then from all my sons—and God gave me many!—he chose my son Solomon to sit on the throne of God’s rule over Israel. He went on to say, ‘Your son Solomon will build my house and my courts: I have chosen him to be my royal adopted son; and I will be to him a father. I will guarantee that his kingdom will last if he continues to be as strong-minded in doing what I command and carrying out my decisions as he is doing now.’
But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have spilled much blood.’
But Elohim told me, ‘You must not build the temple for my name. You have fought wars and caused bloodshed.’
But God said to me, You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man who waged wars and shed blood.
But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
but God said to me, ‘You will not build a house for my name for you have been a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You must not build a temple for worshiping me, because you are a soldier and have killed many people.’
But God said to me, ‘You must not build a temple to honor me, for you are a warrior and have spilled blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You are not the one who will build a house for my Name. That is because you are a fighting man. You have spilled people’s blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, “You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.”
But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you have been a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You must not build a house for My name, because you are a man of war and blood.’
but God said to me, ‘You must not build a Temple to honor my name, for you are a warrior and have shed much blood.’
But God said to me, “You shall not build a house for my name, for you are a warrior and have shed blood.”

But God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a warrior and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a warrior and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, ‘You will not build a House for My name because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God did not want me to build His temple. He told me, “You have shed much blood and waged great wars, My wars. But because of your conquests and the amount of blood you spilled on My behalf, you will not build a house honoring My reputation. The blood on your hands makes you ritually impure.”
But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’
But God said to me, Thou shalt not build an house to my name, for thou art a man warrior, and hast shed blood. (But God said to me, Thou shalt not build a House to honour my name, for thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.)
and God hath said to me, Thou dost not build a house to My name, for a man of wars thou [art], and blood thou hast shed.
