Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Zayin
49 Remember the word to Your slave,
[a]In which You have made me wait.
50 This is my (A)comfort in my affliction,
That Your word has [b]revived me.
51 The arrogant (B)utterly scoff at me,
Yet I do not (C)turn aside from Your law.
52 I have (D)remembered Your judgments from [c]of old, O Yahweh,
And comfort myself.
53 Burning (E)indignation has seized me because of the wicked,
Who (F)forsake Your law.
54 Your statutes have become my songs
In the house of my (G)sojourning.
55 I (H)remember (I)in the night Your name, O Yahweh,
So I keep Your law.
56 This has become mine,
[d]That I (J)observe Your precepts.
Jeremiah Prays, Yahweh Responds
16 “After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, then I (A)prayed to Yahweh, saying, 17 ‘(B)Ah Lord Yahweh! Behold, You have (C)made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! (D)Nothing is too difficult for You, 18 who (E)shows lovingkindness to thousands, but (F)repays the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O (G)great and (H)mighty God. (I)Yahweh of hosts is His name, 19 (J)great in counsel and abundant in deeds, whose (K)eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, (L)giving to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds, 20 who has (M)set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day both in Israel and among mankind; and You have (N)made a name for Yourself, as at this day. 21 You (O)brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with great terror 22 and gave them this land, which You (P)swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey. 23 They (Q)came in and took possession of it, but they (R)did not listen to Your voice and did not (S)walk in Your law. They have not done anything that You commanded them to do; therefore You have made (T)all this harmful evil come upon them. 24 Behold, the (U)siege ramps have come to the city to capture it; and the city is (V)given into the hand of the Chaldeans, who fight against it, because of the (W)sword, the famine, and the pestilence; and what You have spoken has (X)happened; and behold, You see it. 25 And You have said to me, O Lord Yahweh, “Buy for yourself the field with money and call in witnesses”—but the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’”
26 Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, 27 “Behold, I am Yahweh, the (Y)God of all flesh; is anything (Z)too difficult for Me?” 28 Therefore thus says Yahweh, “Behold, I am about to (AA)give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will capture it. 29 And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will enter and (AB)set this city on fire and burn it, with the (AC)houses where people have burned incense to Baal on their roofs and poured out drink offerings to other gods to provoke Me to anger. 30 Indeed the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been doing only (AD)evil in My sight from their youth; for the sons of Israel have been only (AE)provoking Me to anger by the work of their hands,” declares Yahweh. 31 “Indeed this city has been to Me a (AF)provocation of My anger and My wrath from the day that they built it, even to this day, so that it should be (AG)removed from before My face 32 because of all the evil of the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah which they have done to provoke Me to anger—they, their (AH)kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 33 And they have turned their back to Me and not their face; though I taught them, (AI)rising up early and teaching, they would not listen [a]and receive discipline. 34 But they (AJ)put their detestable things in the house which is called by My name, to defile it. 35 And they built the (AK)high places of Baal that are in the valley of Ben-hinnom to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to (AL)Molech, which I had not commanded them, nor had it come upon My heart that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
To the Church in Laodicea
14 “And to the angel of the church in (A)Laodicea write:
(B)This is what the Amen, (C)the faithful and true Witness, (D)the [a]Beginning of the creation of God, says:
15 ‘(E)I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. (F)I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will [b]spit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, “(G)I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and pitiable and poor and blind and naked. 18 I advise you to (H)buy from Me (I)gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and (J)white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that (K)the shame of your nakedness will not be manifested; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 (L)Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline. Therefore be zealous and (M)repent. 20 Behold, I stand (N)at the door and (O)knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, (P)I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. 21 (Q)He who overcomes, I will grant to him (R)to sit down with Me on My throne, as (S)I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 (T)He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
