¹¹ Then ^(A)the rest of the people who were left in the city and the defectors who had defected to the king of Babylon and the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took away into exile.

^17 (A)Therefore He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans who killed their choice men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on choice man or virgin, old man or infirm; He gave them all into his hand. ^18 (B)And all the articles of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the king and of his officials, he brought them all to Babylon. ¹⁹ Then ^(C)they burned the house of God and tore down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire and destroyed all its valuable articles. ²⁰ And those who had escaped from the sword he ^(D)took away into exile to Babylon; and ^(E)they were slaves to him and to his sons until the rule of the kingdom of Persia, ^21 (F)to fulfill the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremiah, until ^(G)the land had made up for its sabbaths. ^(H)All the days of its desolation it kept sabbath ^[a](I)until seventy years were fulfilled.

⁷ I will ^(A)empty out the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem to the point of destruction in this place, and ^(B)I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life; and I will give over their ^(C)carcasses as food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth. ⁸ I will also make this city an ^(D)object of horror and of hissing; ^(E)everyone who passes by it will be ^[a]horrified and hiss because of all its ^[b]slaughtering. ⁹ I will make them ^(F)eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them.”’

¹⁰ “Then you are to break the ^(G)jar in the sight of the men who accompany you, ¹¹ and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Yahweh of hosts, “Just so will I ^(H)break this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter’s vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will ^(I)bury in Topheth ^[c]because there is no other place for burial. ¹² This is what I will do to this place and its inhabitants,” declares Yahweh, “so as to make this city like Topheth.

³ because Zedekiah king of Judah had ^(A)shut him up, saying, “Why do you ^(B)prophesy, saying, ‘^(C)Thus says Yahweh, “Behold, I am about to ^(D)give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it;

²⁴ Behold, the ^(A)siege ramps have come to the city to capture it; and the city is ^(B)given into the hand of the Chaldeans, who fight against it, because of the ^(C)sword, the famine, and the pestilence; and what You have spoken has ^(D)happened; and behold, You see it.

³⁶ “So now, therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you are saying, ‘It is ^(A)given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine, and by pestilence.’

² “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘^(A)Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him: “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, ^(B)I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and ^(C)he will burn it with fire. ^3 (D)And you will not escape from his hand, for you will surely be seized and given into his hand; and you will ^(E)see the king of Babylon eye to eye, and he will speak with you ^[a]face to face, and you will go to Babylon.’”’
