⁷ Then Solomon built a high place for ^(A)Chemosh the detestable idol of Moab, on the mountain which is ^[a]east of Jerusalem, and for ^(B)Molech the detestable idol of the sons of Ammon. ⁸ Thus also he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

^4 (A)And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, “^(B)In Jerusalem I will put My name.” ⁵ Indeed, he built altars for ^(C)all the host of heaven in ^(D)the two courts of the house of Yahweh. ^6 (E)He even made his son pass through the fire, ^(F)practiced soothsaying and interpreted omens, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much that was evil in the sight of Yahweh provoking Him to anger. ⁷ Then ^(G)he put the graven image of Asherah, which he had made, in the house of which Yahweh had said to David and to Solomon his son, “^(H)In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.

^16 (A)Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; besides his sin ^(B)with which he made Judah sin, in doing what is evil in the sight of Yahweh.

³⁷ “^(A)Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, ^(C)the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you did not want it.
