Version
Psalm 75

Psalm 75[a]

For the music director, according to the al-tashcheth style;[b] a psalm of Asaph, a song.

75 We give thanks to you, O God. We give thanks.
You reveal your presence;[c]
people tell about your amazing deeds.
God says,[d]
“At the appointed times,[e]
I judge[f] fairly.
When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear,[g]
I make its pillars secure.”[h] (Selah)
[i] I say to the proud, “Do not be proud,”
and to the wicked, “Do not be so confident of victory.[j]
Do not be so certain you have won.[k]
Do not speak with your head held so high.[l]
For victory does not come from the east or west,
or from the wilderness.[m]
For God is the judge.[n]
He brings one down and exalts another.[o]
For the Lord holds in his hand a cup
full of foaming wine mixed with spices,[p]
and pours it out.[q]
Surely all the wicked of the earth
will slurp it up and drink it to its very last drop.”[r]
As for me, I will continually tell what you have done;[s]
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 God says,[t]
“I will bring down all the power of the wicked;
the godly will be victorious.”[u]

2 Kings 2:15-22

15 When the members of the prophetic guild in Jericho, who were standing at a distance,[a] saw him do this, they said, “The spirit that energized Elijah[b] rests upon Elisha.” They went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him. 16 They said to him, “Look, there are fifty capable men with your servants. Let them go and look for your master, for the wind sent from the Lord[c] may have carried him away and dropped him on one of the hills or in one of the valleys.” But Elisha[d] replied, “Don’t send them out.” 17 But they were so insistent that he became embarrassed. So he said, “Send them out.” They sent the fifty men out, and they looked for three days, but could not find Elijah.[e] 18 When they came back, Elisha[f] was staying in Jericho. He said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go’?”

Elisha Demonstrates His Authority

19 The men of the city said to Elisha, “Look, the city has a good location, as our[g] master can see. But the water is bad and the land doesn’t produce crops.”[h] 20 Elisha[i] said, “Get me a new jar and put some salt in it.” So they got it. 21 He went out to the spring and threw the salt in. Then he said, “This is what the Lord has said, ‘I have purified[j] this water. It will no longer cause death or fail to produce crops.’”[k] 22 The water has been pure to this very day, just as Elisha prophesied.[l]

1 John 2:7-11

Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning.[a] The old commandment is the word that you have already[b] heard. On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you which is true in him[c] and in you, because[d] the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.[e] The one who says he is in the light but still hates[f] his fellow Christian[g] is still in the darkness. 10 The one who loves his fellow Christian[h] resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.[i] 11 But the one who hates his fellow Christian[j] is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.[k]
