Acts 2:1-21

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

And when (A)the day of Pentecost [a]had fully come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing (B)wind, and it filled (C)the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues like fire [b](D)distributing themselves, and [c]they [d]rested on each one of them. And they were all (E)filled with the Holy Spirit and began to (F)speak with other [e]tongues, as the Spirit was giving them [f]utterance.

Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, (G)devout men from every nation under heaven. And when (H)this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own [g]language. (I)So they were astounded and marveling, saying, “Behold, are not all these who are speaking (J)Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own [h]language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and (K)Cappadocia, (L)Pontus and [i](M)Asia, 10 (N)Phrygia and (O)Pamphylia, Egypt and the district of Libya around (P)Cyrene, and [j](Q)visitors from Rome, both Jews and [k](R)proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And (S)they all continued in astonishment and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others, mocking, were saying, “(T)They are full of new wine.”

Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost

14 But Peter, [l]taking his stand with (U)the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, (V)for it is the [m]third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 (W)And it shall be in the last days,’ God says,
That I will pour out My Spirit on all [n]mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams;
18 Even on My male slaves and female slaves,
I will in those days pour out My Spirit
And they shall prophesy.
19 And I will put wonders in the sky above
And signs on the earth below,
Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned into darkness
And the moon into blood,
Before the great and awesome day of the [o]Lord comes.
21 And it will be that (X)everyone who calls on the name of the [p]Lord will be saved.’

Genesis 11:1-9

The Tower of Babel

11 Now the whole earth [a]had the same language and [b]the same words. And it happened as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land (A)of Shinar and [c]settled there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and they had (B)tar for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top (C)will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves (D)a name, lest we (E)be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” (F)Then Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have [d](G)the same language. And this is what they have begun to do. So now nothing which they purpose to do will be [e]impossible for them. Come, (H)let Us go down and there (I)confuse their [f]language, so that they will not understand one another’s [g]language.” So Yahweh (J)scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. Therefore its name was called [h](K)Babel, because there Yahweh confused the [i]language of the whole earth; and from there Yahweh scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Psalm 104:24-34

24 How (A)numerous are Your works, O Yahweh!
[a]In (B)wisdom You have made them all;
The (C)earth is full of Your [b]possessions.
25 This is the (D)sea, great and [c]broad,
There the creeping things are without number,
Creatures both small and great.
26 There the (E)ships move along,
And [d](F)Leviathan, which You have formed to play in it.

27 They all (G)wait for You
To (H)give them their food in [e]due season.
28 You give to them, they gather it up;
You (I)open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29 You (J)hide Your face, they are dismayed;
You (K)take away their [f]spirit, they breathe their last
And (L)return to their dust.
30 You send forth Your [g](M)Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

31 Let the (N)glory of Yahweh endure forever;
Let Yahweh (O)be glad in His works;
32 [h]He (P)looks at the earth, and it (Q)trembles;
He (R)touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 [i]I will sing to Yahweh (S)throughout my life;
[j]I will (T)sing praise to my God [k]while I have my being.
34 Let my (U)musing be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall (V)be glad in Yahweh.

Psalm 104:35

35 Let sinners be (A)consumed from the earth
And let the (B)wicked be no more.
(C)Bless Yahweh, O my soul.
[a](D)Praise Yah!

Romans 8:14-17

14 For as many as are (A)being led by the Spirit of God, these are (B)sons of God. 15 For you (C)have not received a spirit of slavery [a]leading to fear again, but you (D)have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry out, “(E)Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself (F)testifies with our spirit that we are (G)children of God, 17 and if children, also (H)heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, (I)if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

John 14:8-17

(A)Philip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you all so long and have you not come to know Me, Philip? (B)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (C)I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? (D)The words that I say to you I do not speak from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that (E)I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise (F)believe because of the works themselves. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and (G)greater works than these he will do because (H)I go to the Father. 13 (I)Whatever you ask in My name, this will I do, so that (J)the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything (K)in My name, I will do it.

15 (L)If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [a](M)Advocate, that He may be with you forever; 17 (N)the Spirit of truth, (O)whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him. You know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

John 14:25-27

25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the (A)Advocate, the Holy Spirit, (B)whom the Father will send in My name, (C)He will teach you all things, and (D)bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. 27 (E)Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. (F)Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
