Psalm 77:1-2

In My Distress I Sought the Lord

For the choir director. According to [a]Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A Psalm.

77 My voice rises to God, and I must (A)cry aloud;
My voice rises to God, and He will hear me.
In the (B)day of my distress I sought the Lord;
(C)In the night my (D)hand was stretched out [b]without weariness;
My soul (E)refused to be comforted.

Psalm 77:11-20

11 I shall remember the (A)deeds of Yah;
Surely I will (B)remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will (C)meditate on all Your work
And muse on Your deeds.
13 O God, Your way is (D)holy;
(E)What god is great like God?
14 You are the (F)God who works wonders;
You have (G)made known Your strength among the peoples.
15 You have by Your arm (H)redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and (I)Joseph. Selah.

16 The (J)waters saw You, O God;
The waters saw You, they were in anguish;
The deeps also trembled.
17 The (K)clouds poured out water;
The skies (L)gave forth a sound;
Your (M)arrows went here and there.
18 The (N)sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The (O)lightnings lit up the world;
The (P)earth trembled and shook.
19 Your (Q)way was in the sea
And Your paths in the mighty waters,
But Your footprints were not known.
20 You (R)led Your people like a flock
By the hand of (S)Moses and Aaron.

2 Kings 1:13-18

13 So he (A)again sent the commander of a third fifty with his fifty. Then the third commander of fifty went up and came and bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and he begged him and said to him, “O man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the first two commanders of fifty with their fifties; but now let my [a]life be precious in your sight.” 15 (B)Then the angel of Yahweh spoke to Elijah, “Go down with him; (C)do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king. 16 Then he spoke to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Because you have sent messengers (D)to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word?—therefore [b]you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”

Jehoram Reigns over Israel

17 So Ahaziah died according to the word of Yahweh which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place (E)in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

2 Kings 2:3-5

Then (A)the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over [a]you today?” And he said, “Yes, I know; be silent.”

And Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please (B)stay here, for Yahweh has sent me to (C)Jericho.” But he said, “(D)As Yahweh lives and as your soul lives, I will not forsake you.” So they came to Jericho. (E)Then the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho approached Elisha and said to him, “(F)Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over [b]you today?” And he [c]answered, “Yes, I know; be silent.”

Luke 9:21-27

21 But He [a](A)warned them and directed them not to tell this to anyone, 22 (B)saying, (C)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day.”

Take Up Your Cross

23 And He was saying to them all, (D)If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 For (E)whoever wishes to save his [b]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [c]life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. 25 For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and (F)loses or forfeits himself? 26 (G)For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 But I say to you truthfully, (H)there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
