Psalm 91:1-2

Safe in the Lord

91 Those who ·go to God Most High for safety [L dwell/sit in the shelter of God Most High]
    will ·be protected by [lodge in the shade/shadow of] the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “You are my ·place of safety [refuge] and ·protection [fortress].
    You are my God and I ·trust [have confidence in] you.”

Psalm 91:9-16

·The Lord is your protection [L For you, Lord, are my refuge];
    you have made God Most High your ·place of safety [dwelling place].
10 Nothing ·bad [evil; harmful] will ·happen to [befall] you;
    no ·disaster [blow; or plague] will ·come to [approach] your ·home [L tent].
11 He has ·put his angels in charge of [L commanded his angels/messengers concerning] you
    to ·watch over [keep; guard] ·you wherever you go [L all your ways].
12 They will ·catch you [lift you up] in their hands
    so that you will not hit your foot on a rock [Matt. 4:6; Luke 4:10–11].
13 You will ·walk [tread] on lions and cobras;
    you will ·step on [trample] strong lions and snakes.

14 The Lord says, “Whoever ·loves [desires] me, I will ·save [rescue].
    I will ·protect [lift to safety] those who know ·me [L my name].
15 They will call to me, and I will answer them.
    I will be with them in ·trouble [distress];
    I will rescue them and ·honor [glorify] them.
16 I will ·give them a long, full life [L satisfy them with length of days],
    and ·they will see how I can save [L show them my salvation/victory].”

Exodus 6:1-13

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to ·the king of Egypt [L Pharaoh]. ·I will use my great power against him, and [L By a mighty hand] he will let my people go. ·Because of my power, [L By a mighty hand] he will force them out of his country.”

Then God said to Moses, “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by the name ·God Almighty [El Shaddai], but they did not know me by my name, ·the Lord [Yahweh]. I also ·made [established] my ·agreement [covenant; treaty; C the covenant with Abraham; Gen. 12:1–3] with them to give them the land of Canaan. They ·lived in that land, but it was not their own [L sojourned; wandered as aliens]. Now I have heard the ·cries [groans; moans] of the ·Israelites [L sons of Israel], whom the Egyptians are treating as slaves, and I remember my ·agreement [covenant]. So tell the ·people [L sons; children] of Israel that I say to them, ‘I am the Lord. I will bring you out from the hard work the Egyptians force you to do. I will rescue you, so you will not be slaves to the Egyptians. I will ·free [redeem] you by my ·great power [L outstretched arm], and ·I will punish the Egyptians terribly [L with great/mighty judgments]. I will make you my own people, and I will be your God [C the heart or essence of the covenant]. You will know that I am the Lord your God, the One who ·saves you [L brought you out] from the hard work the Egyptians force you to do. I will ·lead [bring] you to the land that I ·promised [swore; L lifted my hand to give; C to take an oath] to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give you that land to own. I am the Lord.’”

So Moses told this to the ·Israelites [L sons/T children of Israel], but they would not listen to him. ·They were discouraged [Their spirits were broken], and their slavery was ·hard [cruel].

10 Then the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Go tell Pharaoh the king of Egypt that he must let the ·Israelites [L sons/T children of Israel] leave his land.”

12 But Moses answered, “[L If] The Israelites will not listen to me, so surely ·the king [L Pharaoh] will not listen to me either. I am ·not a good speaker [L uncircumcised of lips].”

13 But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them orders about the ·Israelites [L sons/T children of Israel] and [L Pharaoh] the king of Egypt. He commanded them to ·lead [bring] the ·Israelites [L sons/T children of Israel] out of Egypt.

Acts 7:35-42

35 “This Moses was the same man the two men of Israel rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and judge [Ex. 2:14; C compare the rejection of Jesus in v. 52]?’ This same man God sent to be a ruler and ·savior [rescuer; liberator; redeemer], with the ·help [L hand] of the angel that ·Moses saw [L appeared to him] in the burning bush. 36 ·So Moses [L This man] led the people out of Egypt. He worked ·miracles [wonders] and signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea [C the Hebrew OT calls it the Sea of Reeds; the Septuagint (the Greek OT) calls it the Red Sea; Ex. 13:18; 15:4], and then in the ·desert [wilderness] for forty years. 37 This is the same Moses that said to the ·people [L sons; children] of Israel, ‘God will ·give [L raise up for] you a prophet like me, ·who is one of your own ·people [L from among your brothers; Deut. 18:15].’ 38 This is the Moses who was with the ·gathering of the Israelites [assembly; congregation] in the ·desert [wilderness]. He was with the angel that spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and he was with our ·ancestors [forefathers; fathers]. He received ·commands from God that give life [life-giving messages; or living oracles], and he gave those commands to us [Ex. 19—24].

39 “But our ·ancestors [forefathers; fathers] did not want to obey Moses. They ·rejected him [pushed him away] and ·wanted to go [L in their hearts turned] back to Egypt. 40 They said to Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will ·lead [L go before] us. Moses led us out of Egypt, but we don’t know what has happened to him [Ex. 32:1].’ 41 So [L in those days] the people made an idol that looked like a calf. Then they ·brought [or offered up] sacrifices to it and ·were proud of [celebrated; L rejoiced about] what they had made with their own hands. 42 But God turned ·against [or away from] them and did not try to stop them from worshiping the ·sun, moon, and stars [L host of heaven]. This is what is written in the book of the prophets: God says,

‘·People [L House] of Israel, you did not ·bring [offer up to] me sacrifices and offerings
    while you traveled in the ·desert [wilderness] for forty years.
