Psalm 11

Psalm 11[a]

For the music director, by David.

11 In the Lord I have taken shelter.[b]
How can you say to me,[c]
“Flee to a mountain like a bird.[d]
For look, the wicked[e] prepare[f] their bows,[g]
they put their arrows on the strings,
to shoot in the darkness[h] at the morally upright.[i]
When the foundations[j] are destroyed,
what can the godly[k] accomplish?”[l]
The Lord is in his holy temple;[m]
the Lord’s throne is in heaven.[n]
His eyes[o] watch;[p]
his eyes[q] examine[r] all people.[s]
The Lord approves of[t] the godly,[u]
but he[v] hates[w] the wicked and those who love to do violence.[x]
May he rain down[y] burning coals[z] and brimstone[aa] on the wicked!
A whirlwind is what they deserve.[ab]
Certainly[ac] the Lord is just;[ad]
he rewards godly deeds.[ae]
The upright will experience his favor.[af]

1 Kings 5:13-18

13 King Solomon conscripted[a] work crews[b] from throughout Israel, 30,000 men in all. 14 He sent them to Lebanon in shifts of 10,000 men per month. They worked in Lebanon for one month, and then spent two months at home. Adoniram was supervisor of[c] the work crews. 15 Solomon also had 70,000 common laborers[d] and 80,000 stonecutters[e] in the hills, 16 besides 3,300 officials[f] who supervised the workers.[g] 17 By royal order[h] they supplied large valuable stones in order to build the temple’s foundation with chiseled stone. 18 Solomon’s and Hiram’s construction workers,[i] along with men from Byblos,[j] did the chiseling and prepared the wood and stones for the building of the temple.[k]

Ephesians 5:21-6:9

21 and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.[a]

Exhortations to Households

22 [b] Wives, submit[c] to your husbands as to the Lord, 23 because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church (he himself being the savior of the body). 24 But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your[d] wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her 26 to sanctify her by cleansing her[e] with the washing of the water by the word, 27 so that he[f] may present the church to himself as glorious—not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.[g] 28 In the same way[h] husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one has ever hated his own body,[i] but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of his body.[j] 31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become[k] one flesh.[l] 32 This mystery is great—but I am actually[m] speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless,[n] each one of you must also love his own wife as he loves himself,[o] and the wife must[p] respect[q] her husband.

Children,[r] obey your parents in the Lord,[s] for this is right. Honor your father and mother,[t] which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely, that it will go[u] well with you and that you will live[v] a long time on the earth.”[w]

Fathers,[x] do not provoke your children to anger,[y] but raise them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Slaves,[z] obey your human masters[aa] with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ, not like those who do their work only when someone is watching[ab]—as people-pleasers—but as slaves of Christ doing the will of God from the heart.[ac] Obey[ad] with enthusiasm, as though serving the Lord[ae] and not people, because you know that each person, whether slave or free, if he does something good, this[af] will be rewarded by the Lord.

Masters,[ag] treat your slaves[ah] the same way,[ai] giving up the use of threats,[aj] because you know that both you and they have the same master in heaven,[ak] and there is no favoritism with him.
