Psalm 148

Psalm 148[a]

148 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the sky.
Praise him in the heavens.
Praise him, all his angels.[b]
Praise him, all his heavenly assembly.[c]
Praise him, O sun and moon.
Praise him, all you shiny stars.[d]
Praise him, O highest heaven,
and you waters above the sky.[e]
Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for he gave the command and they came into existence.
He established them so they would endure;[f]
he issued a decree that will not be revoked.[g]
Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea creatures and all you ocean depths,
O fire and hail, snow and clouds,[h]
O stormy wind that carries out his orders,[i]
you mountains and all you hills,
you fruit trees and all you cedars,
10 you animals and all you cattle,
you creeping things and birds,
11 you kings of the earth and all you nations,
you princes and all you leaders[j] on the earth,
12 you young men and young women,
you elderly, along with you children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty extends over the earth and sky.
14 He has made his people victorious,[k]
and given all his loyal followers reason to praise—
the Israelites, the people who are close to him.[l]
Praise the Lord!

Exodus 33:18-23

18 And Moses[a] said, “Show me your glory.”[b]

19 And the Lord[c] said, “I will make all my goodness[d] pass before your face, and I will proclaim the Lord by name[e] before you; I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious; I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy.”[f] 20 But he added, “You cannot see my face, for no one can[g] see me and live.”[h] 21 The Lord said, “Here[i] is a place by me; you will station yourself[j] on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and will cover[k] you with my hand[l] while I pass by.[m] 23 Then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back,[n] but my face must not be seen.”[o]

1 John 1:1-9

The Prologue to the Letter

This is what we proclaim to you:[a] what was from the beginning,[b] what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched (concerning the word of life— and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce[c] to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us).[d] What we have seen and heard we announce[e] to you too, so that[f] you may have fellowship[g] with us (and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ). Thus[h] we are writing these things so that[i] our[j] joy may be complete.[k]

God Is Light, So We Must Walk in the Light

Now[l] this is the gospel[m] message[n] we have heard from him[o] and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.[p] If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking[q] in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing[r] the truth. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses[s] us from all sin.[t] If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin,[u] we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous,[v] forgiving[w] us our sins and cleansing[x] us from all unrighteousness.
