Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God Implored to Rescue His People from Their Calamities.
For the music director; set to [a]El Shoshannim; [b]Eduth. A Psalm of Asaph.
80 Listen, (A)Shepherd of Israel,
Who leads (B)Joseph like a flock;
You who (C)are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!
2 Before (D)Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, (E)awaken Your power,
And come to save us!
3 God, (F)restore us
And (G)make Your face shine upon us, [c]and we will be saved.
4 (H)Lord God of armies,
(I)How long will You [d]be angry with the prayer of Your people?
5 You have fed them with the (J)bread of tears,
And You have made them drink tears in [e]large measure.
6 You make us [f]an object of contention (K)to our neighbors,
And our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 God of armies, restore us
And make Your face shine upon us, [g]and we will be saved.
False Prophets Ashamed
13 “On that day a (A)fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for (B)sin and for (C)defilement.
2 “And it will come about on that day,” declares the Lord of armies, “that I will (D)eliminate the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also remove the (E)prophets and the (F)unclean spirit from the land. 3 And if anyone still (G)prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall (H)not live, because you have spoken (I)falsely in the name of the Lord’; and his (J)father and mother who gave birth to him shall pierce him through when he prophesies. 4 Also it will come about on that day that the prophets will each be (K)ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a (L)hairy robe in order to deceive; 5 but he will say, ‘I am (M)not a prophet; I am a cultivator of the ground, because a man [a]sold me as a slave in my youth.’ 6 And someone will say to him, ‘What are these wounds (N)between your [b]arms?’ Then he will say, ‘Those with which I was wounded at the house of [c]my friends.’
7 “Awake, (O)sword, against My (P)Shepherd,
And against the Man, My (Q)Associate,”
Declares the Lord of armies.
“(R)Strike the Shepherd and the sheep will be scattered;
And I will (S)turn My hand [d]against the little ones.
8 And it will come about in all the land,”
Declares the Lord,
“That (T)two parts in it will be cut off and perish;
But the third will be left in it.
9 And I will bring the third part through the (U)fire,
Refine them as silver is refined,
And test them as gold is tested.
They will (V)call on My name,
And I will (W)answer them;
I will say, ‘They are (X)My people,’
And they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
Vision of the Angel with the Gospel
6 And I saw another angel flying in (A)midheaven with (B)an eternal gospel to preach to (C)those who [a]live on the earth, and to (D)every nation, tribe, language, and people; 7 and he said with a loud voice, “(E)Fear God and (F)give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who (G)made the heaven and the earth, and sea and (H)springs of waters.”
8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, “[b](I)Fallen, fallen is (J)Babylon the great, she who has (K)made all the nations drink of the (L)wine of the [c]passion of her sexual immorality.”
Doom for Worshipers of the Beast
9 Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone (M)worships the beast and his (N)image, and receives a (O)mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink of the (P)wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed [d]in full strength (Q)in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with (R)fire and [e]brimstone in the presence of the (S)holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the (T)smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; (U)they have no rest day and night, those who (V)worship the beast and his (W)image, and [f]whoever receives the (X)mark of his name.” 12 Here is (Y)the [g]perseverance of the [h]saints who (Z)keep the commandments of God and [i](AA)their faith in Jesus.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, “Write: ‘(AB)Blessed are the dead who (AC)die in the Lord from now on!’” “Yes,” (AD)says the Spirit, “so that they may (AE)rest from their labors, for their (AF)deeds follow with them.”
