Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
BOOK 2
My Soul Thirsts for God
For the choir director. A [a]Maskil of the sons of Korah.
42 As the deer [b]pants for the water brooks,
So my soul [c](A)pants for You, O God.
2 My soul (B)thirsts for God, for the (C)living God;
When shall I come and [d](D)appear before God?
3 My (E)tears have been my food day and night,
While they (F)say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
4 These things I remember and I (G)pour out my soul within me.
For I (H)used to go along with the throng and [e]lead them in procession to the house of God,
With the sound of a (I)shout of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
5 (J)Why are you [f](K)in despair, O my soul?
And why are you (L)disturbed within me?
(M)Wait for God, for I shall still praise Him,
[g]For the [h](N)salvation of His presence.
6 O my God, my soul is [i]in despair within me;
Therefore I (O)remember You from (P)the land of the Jordan
And the [j]peaks of (Q)Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
7 Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls;
All Your (R)breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.
8 By day, Yahweh will (S)command His lovingkindness;
And (T)by night, His song will be with me,
A prayer to (U)the God of my life.
9 I say to God (V)my rock, “Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go (W)mourning [k]because of the (X)oppression of the enemy?”
10 As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries reproach me,
While they (Y)say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
11 (Z)Why are you [l]in despair, O my soul?
And why are you disturbed within me?
Wait for God, for I shall still praise Him,
The salvation of my presence and my God.
9 Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will come to you in (A)a thick cloud, so that the (B)people may hear when I speak with you and may also believe in you forever.” Then Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.
10 Yahweh also said to Moses, “Go to the people and (C)set them apart as holy today and tomorrow, and let them (D)wash their garments; 11 and let them be ready for the third day, for on (E)the third day Yahweh will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 And you shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘[a]Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; (F)whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 No hand shall touch him, but (G)he shall surely be stoned or surely [b]shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to (H)the mountain.” 14 So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and set the people apart as holy, and they washed their garments. 15 And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.”
16 (I)So it happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were [c]thunder and lightning flashes and a [d]thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the [e]foot of the mountain.
Yahweh Descends on Mount Sinai
18 (J)Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because Yahweh descended upon it (K)in fire; and its smoke ascended like (L)the smoke of a furnace, and (M)the whole mountain trembled violently. 19 And the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder; then Moses spoke and (N)God answered him with [f]thunder. 20 (O)And Yahweh came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and Yahweh called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. 21 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go down, [g]warn the people, lest (P)they break through to Yahweh to see, and many of them [h]perish. 22 Also let the (Q)priests who come near to Yahweh set themselves apart as holy, lest Yahweh break out against them.” 23 And Moses said to Yahweh, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai, for You [i]warned us, saying, ‘(R)Set bounds about the mountain, and set it apart as holy.’” 24 Then Yahweh said to him, “[j]Go down and come up again, (S)you and Aaron with you; but do not let the (T)priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest He break out against them.” 25 So Moses went down to the people and told them.
2 (A)And behold, they brought to Him a (B)paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “(C)Take courage, [a]son; (D)your sins are forgiven.” 3 And behold, some of the scribes said [b]to themselves, “This man (E)blasphemes.” 4 And Jesus (F)knowing their thoughts said, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ‘(G)Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But so that you may know that (H)the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He *said to the (I)paralytic, “Get up, pick up your bed and go home.” 7 And he got up and [c]went home. 8 But when the crowds saw this, they were afraid, and (J)glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
