Psalm 100

All People Exhorted to Praise God.

A Psalm for [a]Thanksgiving.

100 (A)Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
(B)Serve the Lord with jubilation;
(C)Come before Him with rejoicing.
Know that (D)the Lord [b]Himself is God;
It is He who has (E)made us, and [c]not we ourselves;
We are (F)His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates (G)with [d]thanksgiving,
And His courtyards with praise.
Give thanks to Him, (H)bless His name.
For (I)the Lord is good;
(J)His mercy is everlasting
And His (K)faithfulness is to all generations.

Jeremiah 23:1-8

The Coming Messiah: the Righteous Branch

23 (A)Woe to the shepherds who are causing the (B)sheep of My pasture to (C)perish and are scattering them!” declares the Lord. Therefore this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says concerning the shepherds who are [a]tending My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not been concerned about them; behold, I am going to (D)call you to account for the (E)evil of your deeds,” declares the Lord. “Then I Myself will (F)gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply. I will also raise up (G)shepherds over them and they will [b]tend them; and they will (H)not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, (I)nor will any be missing,” declares the Lord.

“Behold, the (J)days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“When I will raise up for David a righteous [c](K)Branch;
And He will (L)reign as king and [d]act wisely
And (M)do justice and righteousness in the land.
In His days Judah will be saved,
And (N)Israel will live securely;
And this is His (O)name by which He will be called,
‘The (P)Lord Our Righteousness.’

(Q)Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought the sons of Israel up from the land of Egypt,’ (R)but, ‘As the Lord lives, who (S)brought up and led the descendants of the household of Israel back from the north land and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ Then they will live on their own soil.”

Matthew 20:17-28

Death, Resurrection Foretold

17 (A)As Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the road He said to them, 18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man (B)will be [a]handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death, 19 and they (C)will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and flog and crucify, and on (D)the third day He will be raised up.”

Request for Preferred Treatment

20 (E)Then the mother of (F)the [b]sons of Zebedee came to [c]Jesus with her sons, (G)bowing down and making a request of Him. 21 And He said to her, “What do you desire?” She *said to Him, “Say that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine (H)shall sit, one at Your right, and one at Your left.” 22 But Jesus replied, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able (I)to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They *said to Him, “We are able.” 23 He *said to them, (J)My cup you shall drink; but to sit at My right and at My left is not Mine to give, (K)but it is for those for whom it has been (L)prepared by My Father.”

24 And after hearing this, the other ten disciples became indignant with the two brothers. 25 (M)But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them, and [d]those in high position exercise authority over them. 26 It [e]is not this way among you, (N)but whoever wants to become [f]prominent among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave; 28 just as (O)the Son of Man (P)did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His [g]life as a ransom for many.”
