Psalm 3

Psalm 3[a]

A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom.[b]

Lord, how[c] numerous are my enemies!
Many attack me.[d]
Many say about me,
“God will not deliver him.”[e] (Selah)[f]
But you, Lord, are a shield that protects me;[g]
you are my glory[h] and the one who restores me.[i]
To the Lord I cried out,[j]
and he answered me from his holy hill.[k] (Selah)
I rested and slept;
I awoke,[l] for the Lord protects[m] me.
I am not afraid[n] of the multitude of people[o]
who attack me from all directions.[p]
Rise up,[q] Lord!
Deliver me, my God!
Yes,[r] you will strike[s] all my enemies on the jaw;
you will break the teeth[t] of the wicked.[u]
The Lord delivers;[v]
you show favor to your people.[w] (Selah)

1 Samuel 3:19-4:2

19 Samuel continued to grow, and the Lord was with him. None of his prophecies fell to the ground unfulfilled.[a] 20 All Israel from Dan to Beer Sheba realized that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the Lord. 21 Then the Lord again appeared in Shiloh, for it was in Shiloh that the Lord had revealed himself to Samuel[b] through a message from the Lord.[c] Samuel revealed the word of the Lord[d] to all Israel.

The Ark of the Covenant is Lost to the Philistines

Then the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines.[e] They camped at Ebenezer,[f] and the Philistines camped at Aphek. The Philistines arranged their forces to fight[g] Israel. As the battle spread out,[h] Israel was defeated by[i] the Philistines, who[j] killed about 4,000 men in the battle line in the field.

Hebrews 10:26-31

26 For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us,[a] 27 but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury[b] of fire that will consume God’s enemies.[c] 28 Someone who rejected the law of Moses was put to death[d] without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.[e] 29 How much greater punishment do you think that person deserves who has contempt for[f] the Son of God, and profanes[g] the blood of the covenant that made him holy,[h] and insults the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know the one who said, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,”[i] and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”[j] 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
