Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Hope in the Lord’s Forgiving Love.
A Song of Ascents.
130 Out of the (A)depths I have cried to You, O Lord.
2 Lord, (B)hear my voice!
Let (C)Your ears be attentive
To the (D)voice of my supplications.
3 If You, [a]Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could (E)stand?
4 But there is (F)forgiveness with You,
That You may be (G)feared.
5 I wait for the Lord, my (H)soul does wait,
And [b](I)in His word do I hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than the watchmen (J)for the morning;
Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, (K)hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is (L)lovingkindness,
And with Him is (M)abundant redemption.
8 And He will (N)redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.
8 But you, O mountains of Israel, you will (A)put forth your branches and bear your fruit for My people Israel; for they will soon come. 9 For, behold, I am for you, and I will (B)turn to you, and you will be (C)cultivated and sown. 10 I will multiply men on you, (D)all the house of Israel, all of it; and the (E)cities will be inhabited and the waste places will be rebuilt. 11 I will multiply on you man and beast; and they will increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited as you were (F)formerly and will [a]treat you (G)better than at the first. Thus you will know that I am the Lord. 12 Yes, I will cause (H)men—My people Israel—to walk on you and possess you, so that you will become their (I)inheritance and never again (J)bereave them of children.’
13 “Thus says the Lord God, ‘Because they say to you, “You are a (K)devourer of men and have bereaved your [b]nation of children,” 14 therefore you will no longer devour men and no longer bereave your nation of children,’ declares the Lord God. 15 “I will not let you hear (L)insults from the nations anymore, nor will you bear (M)disgrace from the peoples any longer, nor will you cause your nation to (N)stumble any longer,” declares the Lord God.’”
44 Now He said to them, “(A)These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the (B)Law of Moses and the Prophets and (C)the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He (D)opened their [a]minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, “(E)Thus it is written, that the [b]Christ would suffer and (F)rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that (G)repentance [c]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed [d]in His name to (H)all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are (I)witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, (J)I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but (K)you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
The Ascension
50 And He led them out as far as (L)Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple [e]praising God.
