Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Lord the Keeper of Israel.
A Song of Ascents.
121 I will (A)lift up my eyes to (B)the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
2 My (C)help comes from the Lord,
Who (D)made heaven and earth.
3 He will not (E)allow your foot to slip;
He who (F)keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your (G)keeper;
The Lord is your (H)shade on your right hand.
6 The (I)sun will not smite you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will [a](J)protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.
8 The Lord will [b](K)guard your going out and your coming in
(L)From this time forth and forever.
Israel Exhorted
51 “(A)Listen to me, you who (B)pursue righteousness,
Who seek the Lord:
Look to the (C)rock from which you were hewn
And to the [a]quarry from which you were dug.
2 “Look to (D)Abraham your father
And to Sarah who gave birth to you in pain;
When he (E)was but one I called him,
Then I blessed him and multiplied him.”
3 Indeed, (F)the Lord will comfort Zion;
He will comfort all her (G)waste places.
And her (H)wilderness He will make like (I)Eden,
And her desert like the (J)garden of the Lord;
(K)Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.
3 (A)I thank God, whom I (B)serve with a (C)clear conscience [a]the way my forefathers did, (D)as I constantly remember you in my [b]prayers night and day, 4 (E)longing to see you, (F)even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 [c]For I am mindful of the (G)sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and (H)your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh (I)the gift of God which is in you through (J)the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a (K)spirit of [d]timidity, but of power and love and [e]discipline.
