Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Description of a Citizen of Zion.
A Psalm of David.
15 O Lord, who may [a]abide (A)in Your tent?
Who may dwell on Your (B)holy hill?
2 He who (C)walks with integrity, and works righteousness,
And (D)speaks truth in his heart.
3 He (E)does not slander [b]with his tongue,
Nor (F)does evil to his neighbor,
Nor (G)takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 In [c]whose eyes a reprobate is despised,
But [d]who (H)honors those who fear the Lord;
He (I)swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 He (J)does not put out his money [e]at interest,
Nor (K)does he take a bribe against the innocent.
(L)He who does these things will never be shaken.
17 “(A)You shall not pervert the justice [a]due an alien or [b]an orphan, nor (B)take a widow’s garment in pledge. 18 But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and that the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
19 “(C)When you reap your harvest in your field and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be (D)for the alien, for the [c]orphan, and for the widow, in order that the Lord your God (E)may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 (F)When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs [d]again; it shall be (G)for the alien, for the [e]orphan, and for the widow.
21 “When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not [f]go over it again; it shall be for the alien, for the [g]orphan, and for the widow. 22 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
Sundry Laws
25 “(H)If there is a dispute between men and they go to [h]court, and [i]the judges decide their case, (I)and they justify the righteous and condemn the wicked, 2 then it shall be if the wicked man [j](J)deserves to be beaten, the judge shall then make him lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of stripes according to his [k]guilt. 3 (K)He may beat him forty times but no more, so that he does not beat him with many more stripes than these and your brother is not (L)degraded in your eyes.
4 “(M)You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing.
Concerning Elders
17 (A)The elders who (B)rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who (C)work hard [a]at preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “(D)You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing,” and “(E)The laborer is worthy of his wages.” 19 Do not receive an accusation against an (F)elder except on the basis of (G)two or three witnesses. 20 Those who continue in sin, (H)rebuke in the presence of all, (I)so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning. 21 (J)I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. 22 (K)Do not lay hands upon anyone too hastily and [b]thereby share (L)responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself [c]free from sin.
23 No longer drink water exclusively, but (M)use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.
24 The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins (N)follow after.
