Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
God’s Universal Reign
2 The word which (A)Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 Now it will come about that
(B)In the last days
The (C)mountain of the house of the Lord
Will be established [a]as the chief of the mountains,
And will be raised above the hills;
And (D)all the nations will stream to it.
3 And many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
That He may teach us [b]concerning His ways
And that we may walk in His paths.”
For the [c]law will go forth (E)from Zion
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 And He will judge between the nations,
And will [d]render decisions for many peoples;
And (F)they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
(G)Nation will not lift up sword against nation,
And never again will they learn war.
Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.
A Song of Ascents, of David.
122 I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us (A)go to the house of the Lord.”
2 Our feet are standing
Within your (B)gates, O Jerusalem,
3 Jerusalem, that is (C)built
As a city that is (D)compact together;
4 To which the tribes (E)go up, even the tribes of [a]the Lord—
[b]An ordinance for Israel—
To give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5 For there (F)thrones were set for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the (G)peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who (H)love you.
7 “May peace be within your (I)walls,
And prosperity within your (J)palaces.”
8 For the sake of my (K)brothers and my friends,
I will now say, “(L)May peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will (M)seek your good.
11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is (A)already the hour for you to (B)awaken from sleep; for now [a]salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. 12 (C)The night is almost gone, and (D)the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside (E)the deeds of darkness and put on (F)the armor of light. 13 Let us [b](G)behave properly as in the day, (H)not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. 14 But (I)put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh (J)in regard to its lusts.
36 “But (A)of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37 For [a]the (B)coming of the Son of Man will be (C)just like the days of Noah. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, (D)marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that (E)Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not [b]understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the (F)coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then there will be two men in the field; one [c]will be taken and one [d]will be left. 41 (G)Two women will be grinding at the [e](H)mill; one [f]will be taken and one [g]will be left.
Be Ready for His Coming
42 “Therefore (I)be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But [h]be sure of this, that (J)if the head of the house had known (K)at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be [i]broken into. 44 For this reason (L)you also must be ready; for (M)the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
