Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
5 How (A)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (B)hope is in the Lord his God,
6 Who (C)made heaven and earth,
The (D)sea and all that is in them;
Who (E)keeps [a]faith forever;
7 Who (F)executes justice for the oppressed;
Who (G)gives food to the hungry.
The Lord (H)sets the prisoners free.
8 The Lord (I)opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord (J)raises up those who are bowed down;
The Lord (K)loves the righteous;
9 The Lord [b](L)protects the [c]strangers;
He [d](M)supports the fatherless and the widow,
But He [e]thwarts (N)the way of the wicked.
10 The Lord will (O)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.
[f]Praise [g]the Lord!
13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And (A)the Lord [a]enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. 14 Then the (B)women said to Naomi, “Blessed is the Lord who has not left you without a [b]redeemer today, and may his name [c]become famous in Israel. 15 May he also be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you [d](C)and is better to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.”
The Line of David Began Here
16 Then Naomi took the child [e]and laid him in her lap, and became his nurse. 17 The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi!” So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 (A)looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which (B)the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the (C)elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His (D)promise we are looking for (E)new heavens and a new earth, (F)in which righteousness dwells.
14 (G)Therefore, (H)beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be (I)found by Him in peace, (J)spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the (K)patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also (L)our beloved brother Paul, (M)according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of (N)these things, (O)in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and (P)unstable distort, as they do also (Q)the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, (R)beloved, knowing this beforehand, (S)be on your guard so that you are not carried away by (T)the error of (U)unprincipled men and (V)fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and (W)knowledge of our (X)Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (Y)To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
