Psalm 87

87 1 The holy Ghost promiseth, that the condition of the Church which was in misery after the captivity of Babylon, should be restored to great excellency. 4 So that there should be nothing more comfortable, than to be numbered among the members thereof.

A Psalm or song committed to the sons of Korah.

God laid his [a]foundations among the holy mountains.

The Lord loveth the gates of Zion above all the habitations of Jacob.

[b]Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

I will make mention of [c]Rahab and Babel among them that know me: behold Palestine and Tyre with Ethiopia, [d]There is he born.

And of Zion it shall be said, [e]Many are born in her: and he, even the most High shall stablish her.

The Lord shall count, when he [f]writeth the people, He was born there. Selah.

As well the singers as the players on instruments shall praise thee: all my [g]springs are in thee.

Joel 3:1-8

Of the judgment of God against the enemies of his people.

For behold, in [a]those days and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,

I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the [b]valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people, and for mine heritage Israel: whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

And they have cast lots for my people, and have given the child [c]for the harlot, and sold the girl for wine, that they might drink.

Yea, and [d]what have you to do with me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? will ye render me [e]a recompense? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I render your recompense upon your head:

For ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly and pleasant things.

The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have you sold unto the Grecians, that ye might send them far from their border.

Behold, I will raise them out of the place where ye have sold them, and will render your reward upon your own head.

And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they [f]shall send them to the Sabeans, to a people far off, for the Lord hath spoken it.

1 Peter 4:12-19

12 [a]Dearly beloved, think it not [b]strange [c]concerning the fiery trial, which is among you to prove you as though some strange thing were come unto you.

13 [d]But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, that when his glory shall appear, ye may be glad and rejoice.

14 (A)[e]If ye be railed upon for the Name of Christ, blessed are ye: for the [f]spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: which on their part is evil spoken of, but on your part is glorified.

15 [g]But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or an evil doer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

16 But if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed: but let him glorify God in this behalf.

17 [h]For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God. [i]If it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them which obey not the Gospel of God?

18 (B)And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

19 [j]Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
