Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
2 At the beginning the Lord spake by Hosea, and the Lord said unto Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife [a]of fornications, and children of fornications: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord.
3 So he went, and took [b]Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, which conceived and bare him a son.
4 And the Lord said unto him, Call his name [c]Jezreel: for yet a little, and I will visit the blood of Jezreel upon the house of [d]Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
5 And at that [e]day will I also break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.
6 She conceived yet again, and bare a daughter, and God said unto him, Call her name [f]Lo-Ruhamah: for I will no more have pity upon the house of Israel: but I will utterly [g]take them away.
7 Yet I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will [h]save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.
8 Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
9 Then said God, Call his name [i]Lo-Ammi: for ye are not my people: therefore will I not be yours.
10 Yet the number of the [j]children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor told: and in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
85 1 Because God withdrew not his rods from his Church after their return from Babylon, first they put him in mind of their deliverance, to the intent that he should not leave the work of his grace imperfect. 5 Next they complain of their long affliction. 8 And thirdly, they rejoice in hope of felicity promised. 9 For their deliverance was a figure of Christ’s kingdom, under the which should be perfect felicity.
To him that excelleth. A Psalm committed to the sons of Korah.
1 Lord, thou hast been [a]favorable unto thy land: thou hast brought again the captivity of Jacob.
2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, and [b]covered all their sins. Selah.
3 Thou hast withdrawn all thine anger, and hast turned back from the [c]fierceness of thy wrath.
4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and release thine anger toward us.
5 Wilt thou be angry with us [d]forever? and wilt thou prolong thy wrath from one generation to another?
6 Wilt thou not turn again and quicken us, that thy people may rejoice in thee?
7 Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy [e]salvation.
8 I will hearken what the Lord God will say: for he will speak [f]peace unto his people, and to his Saints, that they turn not again to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth shall meet, righteousness and peace shall kiss one another.
11 [g]Truth shall bud out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
12 Yea, the Lord shall give good things, and our land shall give her increase.
13 [h]Righteousness shall go before him, and shall set her steps in the way.
6 As ye have therefore [a]received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.
7 Rooted and built in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving:
8 [b]Beware lest there be any man that [c]spoil you through philosophy, and vain deceit, [d]through the traditions of men, [e]according to the [f]rudiments of the world, [g]and not after Christ.
9 [h]For [i]in him [j]dwelleth [k]all the fullness of the Godhead [l]bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.
11 [m]In whom also ye are circumcised with (A)circumcision made without hands, by putting off the [n]sinful body of the flesh, through the circumcision of Christ,
12 [o]In that ye are (B)[p]buried with [q]him through baptism, [r]in whom ye are also raised up together through the faith of the operation of [s]God, which raised him from the dead.
13 (C)[t]And you which were dead in sins, [u]and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, forgiving you all your trespasses,
14 [v]And putting out the (D)[w]handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, he even took it out of the way, and fastened it upon the cross,
15 And hath spoiled the [x]Principalities, and Powers, and hath [y]made a show of them openly, and hath triumphed over them in the [z]same cross.
16 [a]Let no man therefore condemn you in meat and drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days,
17 Which are but a shadow of things to come: but the [b]body is in Christ.
18 [c]Let no man at his pleasure bear rule over you by [d]humbleness of mind, and worshipping of Angels, [e]advancing himself in those things which he never saw, [f][g]rashly puffed up with his fleshly mind,
19 [h]And holdeth not the [i]head, whereof all the body furnished and knit together by joints and bands, increaseth with the increasing of [j]God.
11 1 He teacheth his Apostles to pray. 14 The dumb devil driven out. 27 A woman of the company lifted up her voice. 29 The Jews require signs. 37 He being feasted of the Pharisee, reproveth the outward show of holiness.
1 And so it was, that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 (A)And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, [a]Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come: Let thy will be done, even in earth, as it is in heaven:
3 Our daily bread give us [b]for the day:
4 And forgive us our sins: for even we forgive every man that is indebted to us: And lead us not into temptation: but deliver us from evil.
5 ¶ [c]Moreover he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves?
6 For a friend of mine is come out of the way to me, and I have nothing to set before him:
7 And he within should answer, and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed: I cannot rise and give them to thee.
8 I say unto you, Though he would not arise and give him, because he is his friend, yet doubtless because of his [d]importunity, he would rise and give him as many as he needed.
9 (B)And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and ye shall find: knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 (C)For everyone that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
11 (D)If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion?
13 If ye then which are evil, can give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the holy Ghost to them that desire him?
