Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Hosea's Wife and Children
2 When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, (A)“Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have (B)children of whoredom, for (C)the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.” 3 So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.
4 And the Lord said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while (D)I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and (E)I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. 5 And on that day (F)I will break the bow of Israel (G)in the Valley of Jezreel.”
6 She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the Lord said to him, (H)“Call her name No Mercy,[a] for (I)I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all. 7 But (J)I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God. I (K)will not save them by bow or by sword or by war or by horses or by horsemen.”
8 When she had weaned No Mercy, she conceived and bore a son. 9 And the Lord said, (L)“Call his name Not My People,[b] for (M)you are not my people, and I am not your God.”[c]
10 [d] Yet (N)the number of the children of Israel shall be (O)like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. (P)And (Q)in the place where it was said to them, (R)“You are not my people,” it shall be said to them, (S)“Children[e] of (T)the living God.”
Revive Us Again
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.
85 Lord, you were (B)favorable to your land;
you (C)restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You (D)forgave the iniquity of your people;
you (E)covered all their sin. Selah
3 You withdrew all your wrath;
you (F)turned from your hot anger.
4 (G)Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
and put away your indignation toward us!
5 (H)Will you be angry with us forever?
Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
6 Will you not (I)revive us again,
that your people may (J)rejoice in you?
7 Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
8 (K)Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for he will (L)speak peace to his people, to his (M)saints;
but let them not (N)turn back to (O)folly.
9 Surely his (P)salvation is near to those who fear him,
that (Q)glory may dwell in our land.
10 (R)Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
(S)righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
and righteousness looks down from the sky.
12 Yes, (T)the Lord will give what is good,
and our land (U)will yield its increase.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before him
and make his footsteps a way.
Alive in Christ
6 (A)Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 (B)rooted and (C)built up in him and (D)established in the faith, just (E)as you were taught, abounding (F)in thanksgiving.
8 See to it that no one takes you captive by (G)philosophy and (H)empty deceit, according to (I)human tradition, according to the (J)elemental spirits[a] of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For (K)in him the whole fullness of deity dwells (L)bodily, 10 and (M)you have been filled in him, who is (N)the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also (O)you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by (P)putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 (Q)having been buried with him in baptism, in which (R)you were also raised with him through faith in (S)the powerful working of God, (T)who raised him from the dead. 13 (U)And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God (V)made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by (W)canceling (X)the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 (Y)He disarmed the rulers and authorities[b] and (Z)put them to open shame, by (AA)triumphing over them in him.[c]
Let No One Disqualify You
16 Therefore let no one (A)pass judgment on you (B)in questions of food and drink, or with regard to (C)a festival or (D)a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 (E)These are a shadow of the things to come, but (F)the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one (G)disqualify you, (H)insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, (I)going on in detail about visions,[a] (J)puffed up without reason by (K)his sensuous mind, 19 and (L)not (M)holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
The Lord's Prayer
11 Now Jesus[a] was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, (A)as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, (B)“When you pray, say:
(C)“Father, (D)hallowed be (E)your name.
(F)Your kingdom come.
3 (G)Give us (H)each day our daily bread,[b]
4 and (I)forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And (J)lead us not into temptation.”
5 And he said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, 6 for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; 7 and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’? 8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything (K)because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence[c] he will rise and give him whatever he needs. 9 And I tell you, (L)ask, and (M)it will be given to you; (N)seek, and you will find; (O)knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for[d] a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, (P)who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father (Q)give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
