Psalm 85

Revive Us Again

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

85 Lord, you were (B)favorable to your land;
    you (C)restored the fortunes of Jacob.
You (D)forgave the iniquity of your people;
    you (E)covered all their sin. Selah
You withdrew all your wrath;
    you (F)turned from your hot anger.

(G)Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
    and put away your indignation toward us!
(H)Will you be angry with us forever?
    Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not (I)revive us again,
    that your people may (J)rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.

(K)Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
    for he will (L)speak peace to his people, to his (M)saints;
    but let them not (N)turn back to (O)folly.
Surely his (P)salvation is near to those who fear him,
    that (Q)glory may dwell in our land.

10 (R)Steadfast love and faithfulness meet;
    (S)righteousness and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs up from the ground,
    and righteousness looks down from the sky.
12 Yes, (T)the Lord will give what is good,
    and our land (U)will yield its increase.
13 (V)Righteousness will go before him
    and make his footsteps a way.

Hosea 1:11-2:15

11 And (A)the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and (B)they shall appoint for themselves one head. And they shall go up from the land, for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

Israel's Unfaithfulness Punished

[a] Say to your brothers, (C)“You are my people,”[b] and to your sisters, (D)“You have received mercy.”[c]

“Plead with your mother, plead—
    for (E)she is not my wife,
    and I am not her husband—
that she put away (F)her whoring from her face,
    and her adultery from between her breasts;
lest (G)I strip her naked
    and make her as (H)in the day she was born,
and (I)make her like a wilderness,
    and make her like a parched land,
    and kill her with thirst.
(J)Upon her children also I will have no mercy,
    (K)because they are children of whoredom.
For (L)their mother has played the whore;
    she who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For (M)she said, ‘I will go after my lovers,
    who (N)give me my bread and my water,
    my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’
Therefore (O)I will hedge up her[d] way with thorns,
    and (P)I will build a wall against her,
    so that she cannot find her paths.
She shall pursue her lovers
    but not overtake them,
and she shall seek them
    but shall not find them.
(Q)Then she shall say,
    ‘I will go and return to (R)my first husband,
    (S)for it was better for me then than now.’
And (T)she did not know
    that it was (U)I who gave her
    (V)the grain, the wine, and the oil,
and who lavished on (W)her silver and gold,
    (X)which they used for Baal.
Therefore (Y)I will take back
    my grain in its time,
    and my wine in its season,
and (Z)I will take away my wool and my flax,
    which were to cover her nakedness.
10 Now (AA)I will uncover her lewdness
    in the sight of her lovers,
    and no one shall rescue her out of my hand.
11 (AB)And I will put an end to all her mirth,
    her feasts, her (AC)new moons, her (AD)Sabbaths,
    and all her (AE)appointed feasts.
12 And (AF)I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees,
    (AG)of which she said,
‘These are (AH)my wages,
    which my lovers have given me.’
I will make them a forest,
    (AI)and the beasts of the field shall devour them.
13 And (AJ)I will punish her for (AK)the feast days of the Baals
    when she burned offerings to them
and (AL)adorned herself with her ring and jewelry,
    and went after her lovers
    and forgot me, declares the Lord.

The Lord's Mercy on Israel

14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
    and (AM)bring her into the wilderness,
    and (AN)speak tenderly to her.
15 And there I will give her her vineyards
    and make the Valley of Achor[e] a door of hope.
And there she shall answer (AO)as in the days of her youth,
    as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt.

Luke 8:22-25

Jesus Calms a Storm

22 (A)One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of (B)the lake.” So they set out, 23 and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on (C)the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. 24 And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and (D)rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, (E)and there was a calm. 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they (F)were afraid, and they (G)marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that (H)he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”
