Psalm 46

God the Refuge of His People.

For the choir director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah, [a]set to Alamoth. A Song.

46 God is our (A)refuge and strength,
[b]A very (B)present help (C)in [c]trouble.
Therefore we will (D)not fear, though (E)the earth should change
And though (F)the mountains slip into the heart of the [d]sea;
Though its (G)waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. [e]Selah.

There is a (H)river whose streams make glad the (I)city of God,
The holy (J)dwelling places of the Most High.
God is (K)in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will (L)help her [f]when morning dawns.
The [g]nations (M)made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered;
He [h](N)raised His voice, the earth (O)melted.
The Lord of hosts (P)is with us;
The God of Jacob is (Q)our stronghold. Selah.

Come, (R)behold the works of the Lord,
[i]Who has wrought (S)desolations in the earth.
He (T)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He (U)breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He (V)burns the chariots with fire.
10 [j]Cease striving and (W)know that I am God;
I will be (X)exalted among the [k]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.

Genesis 45:25-46:7

25 Then they went up from Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to their father Jacob. 26 They told him, saying, “Joseph is still alive, and indeed he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.” But [a]he was stunned, for (A)he did not believe them. 27 When they told him all the words of Joseph that he had spoken to them, and when he saw the (B)wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. 28 Then Israel said, “It is enough; my son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Jacob Moves to Egypt

46 So Israel set out with all that he had, and came to (C)Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the (D)God of his father Isaac. (E)God spoke to Israel [b]in visions of the night and said, “(F)Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “(G)I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will (H)make you a great nation there. (I)I will go down with you to Egypt, and (J)I will also surely bring you up again; and (K)Joseph will [c]close your eyes.”

Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the (L)wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. They took their livestock and their property, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and (M)came to Egypt, Jacob and all his [d]descendants with him: his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his [e]descendants he brought with him to Egypt.

Acts 5:33-42

Gamaliel’s Counsel

33 But when they heard this, they were (A)cut [a]to the quick and intended to kill them. 34 But a Pharisee named (B)Gamaliel, a (C)teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in (D)the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. 35 And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. 36 For some time ago Theudas rose up, (E)claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. [b]But he was killed, and all who [c]followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. 37 After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of (F)the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who [d]followed him were scattered. 38 So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or [e]action (G)is of men, it will be overthrown; 39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found (H)fighting against God.”

40 They [f]took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they (I)flogged them and ordered them not to [g]speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them. 41 So they went on their way from the presence of the [h](J)Council, (K)rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame (L)for His name. 42 (M)And every day, in the temple and [i]from house to house, they [j]kept right on teaching and [k](N)preaching Jesus as the [l]Christ.
