Version
Psalm 146:5-10

Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord his God,
maker of heaven and earth,
    the seas and everything in them,
        forever the guardian of truth,
who brings justice for the oppressed,
    and who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord frees the prisoners;
the Lord gives sight to the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down.
    The Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord stands guard over the stranger;
    he supports both widows and orphans,
        but makes the path of the wicked slippery.[a]

10 The Lord will reign forever,
    your God, Zion, for all generations!

Hallelujah!

Ruth 4:13-17

The Marriage of Boaz and Ruth

13 So Boaz took Ruth to be his wife, and when he had marital relations with her, the Lord made her conceive, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women of Bethlehem[a] told Naomi, “May the Lord be blessed,[b] who has not left you today without a related redeemer. May his name become famous throughout Israel! 15 And he will restore your life for you and will support you in your old age, because your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who has borne him, is better for you than seven sons!”

16 Naomi took care of the child, taking him to her breast and becoming his nurse. 17 So her women neighbors gave the child a nickname, which is “Naomi has a son!” They named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse, who was the father of David.

2 Peter 3:11-18

11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, think of the kind of holy and godly people you ought to be 12 as you look forward to and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved and the elements will melt with fire. 13 But in keeping with his promise, we are looking forward to new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to have the Lord[a] find you at peace and without spot or fault. 15 Think of our Lord’s patience as facilitating salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him. 16 He speaks about this subject in all his letters. Some things in them are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, leading to their own destruction, as they do the rest of the Scriptures.

17 And so, dear friends, since you already know these things, continuously be on your guard not to be carried away by the deception of lawless people. Otherwise, you may[b] fall from your secure position. 18 Instead, continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus, the Messiah.[c] Glory belongs to him both now and on that eternal day! Amen.[d]
