Exodus 16:2-15

But the whole congregation of the sons of Israel (A)grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. The sons of Israel said to them, “(B)If only we had died by the Lords hand in the land of Egypt, (C)when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread until we were full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this entire assembly with hunger!”

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, (D)I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, so that I may (E)test them, whether or not they will walk in My [a]instruction. (F)On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.” So Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, “At evening [b](G)you will know that the Lord has brought you out of the land of Egypt; and in the morning [c]you will see (H)the glory of the Lord, for (I)He hears your grumblings against the Lord; and (J)what are we, that you grumble against us?”

The Lord Provides Meat

And Moses said, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are (K)not against us but against the Lord.”

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘(L)Come forward before the Lord, for He has heard your grumblings.’” 10 And it came about, as Aaron spoke to the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, that they [d]looked toward the wilderness, and behold, (M)the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. 11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 (N)I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, ‘[e]At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and (O)you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’”

13 So it came about at evening that (P)the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning (Q)there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 (R)When the layer of dew [f]evaporated, behold, on the [g]surface of the wilderness (S)there was a fine flake-like thing, fine as the frost on the ground. 15 When the sons of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “[h]What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “(T)It is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.

Psalm 105:1-6

The Lords Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.

105 (A)Give thanks to the Lord, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make His deeds known among the peoples.
Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
[a](E)Tell of all His [b]wonders.
Boast in His holy name;
May the (F)heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful.
Seek the Lord and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
Remember His [c](I)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the (J)judgments [d]spoken by His mouth,
You [e]descendants of (K)Abraham, His servant,
You sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!

Psalm 105:37-45

37 Then He brought [a]the Israelites out with (A)silver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (B)glad when they departed,
For the (C)dread of them had fallen upon [b]the Egyptians.
39 He spread out a (D)cloud as a [c]covering,
And (E)fire to illumine by night.
40 [d]They (F)asked, and He brought (G)quail,
And satisfied them with the [e](H)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [f]rock and (I)water flowed out;
[g]It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He (J)remembered His holy word
With His servant Abraham;
43 And He led out His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful (K)shout.
44 He also (L)gave them the lands of the [h]nations,
So that they (M)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 And that they might (N)keep His statutes
And comply with His laws;
[i]Praise [j]the Lord!

Philippians 1:21-30

To Live Is Christ

21 For to me, (A)to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 [a]But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean (B)fruitful labor for me; and I do not know [b]which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the (C)desire to depart and (D)be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sakes. 25 (E)Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy [c]in the faith, 26 so that your (F)pride in Christ Jesus may be abundant because of me by my coming to you again.

27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner (G)worthy of the (H)gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are (I)standing firm in (J)one spirit, with one [d]mind (K)striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 and in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a (L)sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and this too, from God. 29 For to you (M)it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to (N)suffer on His behalf, 30 experiencing the same (O)conflict which (P)you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

Matthew 20:1-16

Laborers in the Vineyard

20 “For (A)the kingdom of heaven is like [a]a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his (B)vineyard. When he had agreed with the laborers for a [b]denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the [c]third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and to those he said, ‘You go into the vineyard also, and whatever is right, I will give you.’ And so they went. Again he went out about the [d]sixth and the ninth hour, and did [e]the same thing. And about the [f]eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he *said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day long?’ They *said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He *said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’

“Now when (C)evening came, the [g]owner of the vineyard *said to his (D)foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, starting with the last group to the first.’ When those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a [h]denarius. 10 And so when those hired first came, they thought that they would receive more; [i]but each of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they grumbled at the landowner, 12 saying, ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day’s work and the (E)scorching heat.’ 13 But he answered and said to one of them, ‘(F)Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go; but I want to give to this last person the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is my own? Or is your (G)eye [j]envious because I am [k]generous?’ 16 So (H)the last shall be first, and the first, last.”
