Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
10 All your works will give thanks to you, Lord.
Your loyal followers will praise you.
11 They will proclaim the splendor of your kingdom;
they will tell about your power,
12 so that mankind[a] might acknowledge your mighty acts,
and the majestic splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an eternal kingdom,[b]
and your dominion endures through all generations.
14 [c] The Lord supports all who fall,
and lifts up all who are bent over.[d]
15 Everything looks to you in anticipation,[e]
and you provide them with food on a regular basis.[f]
16 You open your hand,
and fill every living thing with the food it desires.[g]
17 The Lord is just in all his actions,[h]
and exhibits love in all he does.[i]
18 The Lord is near all who cry out to him,
all who cry out to him sincerely.[j]
19 Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen; he was near the twelfth pair. Elijah passed by him and threw his robe over him. 20 He left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, then I will follow you.” Elijah[a] said to him, “Go back! Indeed, what have I done to you?” 21 Elisha[b] went back and took his pair of oxen and slaughtered them. He cooked the meat over a fire that he made by burning the harness and yoke.[c] He gave the people meat and they ate. Then he got up and followed Elijah and became his assistant.
Paul’s Prayer for the Growth of the Church
9 For this reason we also, from the day we heard about you,[a] have not ceased praying for you and asking God[b] to fill[c] you with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you may live[d] worthily of the Lord and please him in all respects[e]—bearing fruit in every good deed, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might for the display of[f] all patience and steadfastness, joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share[g] in the saints’[h] inheritance in the light. 13 He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves,[i] 14 in whom we have redemption,[j] the forgiveness of sins.
