Psalm 4

Psalm 4[a]

For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of David.

When I call out, answer me,
O God who vindicates me.[b]
Though I am hemmed in, you will lead me into a wide, open place.[c]
Have mercy on me[d] and respond to[e] my prayer.
You men,[f] how long will you try to turn my honor into shame?[g]
How long[h] will you love what is worthless[i]
and search for what is deceptive?[j] (Selah)
Realize that[k] the Lord shows the godly special favor;[l]
the Lord responds[m] when I cry out to him.
Tremble with fear and do not sin.[n]
Meditate as you lie in bed, and repent of your ways.[o] (Selah)
Offer the prescribed sacrifices[p]
and trust in the Lord.[q]
Many say, “Who can show us anything good?”
Smile upon us, Lord![r]
You make me happier[s]
than those who have abundant grain and wine.[t]
I will lie down and sleep peacefully,[u]
for you, Lord, make me safe and secure.[v]

Acts 3:1-10

Peter and John Heal a Lame Man at the Temple

Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time[a] for prayer,[b] at three o’clock in the afternoon.[c] And a man lame[d] from birth[e] was being carried up, who was placed at the temple gate called “the Beautiful Gate” every day[f] so he could beg for money[g] from those going into the temple courts.[h] When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple courts,[i] he asked them for money.[j] Peter looked directly[k] at him (as did John) and said, “Look at us!” So the lame man[l] paid attention to them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold,[m] but what I do have I give you. In the name[n] of Jesus Christ[o] the Nazarene, stand up and[p] walk!” Then[q] Peter[r] took hold[s] of him by the right hand and raised him up, and at once the man’s[t] feet and ankles were made strong.[u] He[v] jumped up,[w] stood and began walking around, and he entered the temple courts[x] with them, walking and leaping and praising God. All[y] the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 and they recognized him as the man who used to sit and ask for donations[z] at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with astonishment and amazement[aa] at what had happened to him.

Luke 22:24-30

24 A dispute also started[a] among them over which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.[b] 25 So[c] Jesus[d] said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’[e] 26 Not so with you;[f] instead the one who is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader[g] like the one who serves.[h] 27 For who is greater, the one who is seated at the table,[i] or the one who serves? Is it not[j] the one who is seated at the table? But I am among you as one[k] who serves.

28 “You are the ones who have remained[l] with me in my trials. 29 Thus[m] I grant[n] to you a kingdom,[o] just as my Father granted to me, 30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit[p] on thrones judging[q] the twelve tribes of Israel.
