Psalm 103:1-8

Psalm 103[a]

By David.

103 Praise the Lord, O my soul.
With all that is within me, praise[b] his holy name.
Praise the Lord, O my soul.
Do not forget all his kind deeds.[c]
He is the one who forgives all your sins,
who heals all your diseases,[d]
who delivers[e] your life from the Pit,[f]
who crowns you with his loyal love and compassion,
who satisfies your life with good things,[g]
so your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.[h]
The Lord does what is fair,
and executes justice for all the oppressed.[i]
The Lord revealed his faithful acts[j] to Moses,
his deeds to the Israelites.
The Lord is compassionate and merciful;
he is patient[k] and demonstrates great loyal love.[l]

Numbers 15:32-41

32 When the Israelites were[a] in the wilderness they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.[b] 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and to the whole community. 34 They put him in custody, because there was no clear instruction about what should be done to him. 35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death; the whole community must stone[c] him with stones outside the camp.” 36 So the whole community took him outside the camp and stoned him to death,[d] just as the Lord commanded Moses.

Rules for Tassels

37 The Lord spoke to Moses: 38 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them to make[e] tassels[f] for themselves on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and put a blue thread[g] on the tassel of the corners. 39 You must have this tassel so that you may look at it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and obey them and so that you do not follow[h] after your own heart and your own eyes that lead you to unfaithfulness.[i] 40 Thus[j] you will remember and obey all my commandments and be holy to your God. 41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord your God.”

Hebrews 12:3-17

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up. You have not yet resisted to the point of bloodshed[a] in your struggle against sin. And have you forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons?

My son, do not scorn[b] the Lord’s discipline
or give up when he corrects[c] you.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves and chastises every son he accepts.”[d]

Endure your suffering[e] as discipline;[f] God is treating you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? But if you do not experience discipline,[g] something all sons[h] have shared in, then you are illegitimate and are not sons. Besides, we have experienced discipline from[i] our earthly fathers[j] and we respected them; shall we not submit ourselves all the more to the Father of spirits and receive life?[k] 10 For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness. 11 Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful.[l] But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness[m] for those trained by it. 12 Therefore, strengthen[n] your listless hands and your weak knees,[o] 13 and make straight paths for your feet,[p] so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but be healed.

Do Not Reject God’s Warning

14 Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness,[q] for without it no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God, that no one be like a bitter root springing up[r] and causing trouble, and through it many become defiled. 16 And see to it that no one becomes[s] an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.[t] 17 For you know that[u] later when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no opportunity for repentance, although he sought the blessing[v] with tears.
