Psalm 32

Psalm 32[a]

By David; a well-written song.[b]

32 How blessed[c] is the one whose rebellious acts are forgiven,[d]
whose sin is pardoned.[e]
How blessed is the one[f] whose wrongdoing the Lord does not punish,[g]
in whose spirit there is no deceit.[h]
When I refused to confess my sin,[i]
my whole body wasted away,[j]
while I groaned in pain all day long.
For day and night you tormented me;[k]
you tried to destroy me[l] in the intense heat[m] of summer.[n] (Selah)
Then I confessed my sin;
I no longer covered up my wrongdoing.
I said, “I will confess[o] my rebellious acts to the Lord.”
And then you forgave my sins.[p] (Selah)
For this reason every one of your faithful followers[q] should pray to you
while there is a window of opportunity.[r]
Certainly[s] when the surging water[t] rises,
it will not reach them.[u]
You are my hiding place;
you protect me from distress.
You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance.[v] (Selah)
I will instruct and teach you[w] about how you should live.[x]
I will advise you as I look you in the eye.[y]
Do not be[z] like an unintelligent horse or mule,[aa]
which will not obey you
unless they are controlled by a bridle and bit.[ab]
10 An evil person suffers much pain,[ac]
but the Lord’s faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him.[ad]
11 Rejoice in the Lord and be happy, you who are godly!
Shout for joy, all you who are morally upright![ae]

Jeremiah 25:30-38

30 “Then, Jeremiah,[a] make the following prophecy[b] against them:

‘Like a lion about to attack,[c] the Lord will roar from the heights of heaven;
from his holy dwelling on high he will roar loudly.
He will roar mightily against his land.[d]
He will shout in triumph, like those stomping juice from the grapes,[e]
against all those who live on the earth.
31 The sounds of battle[f] will resound to the ends of the earth.
For the Lord will bring charges against the nations.[g]
He will pass judgment on all humankind
and will hand the wicked over to be killed in war.’[h]
The Lord so affirms it![i]
32 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says,
‘Disaster will soon come on one nation after another.[j]
A mighty storm of military destruction[k] is rising up
from the distant parts of the earth.’
33 Those who have been killed by the Lord at that time
will be scattered from one end of the earth to the other.
They will not be mourned over, gathered up, or buried.[l]
Their dead bodies will lie scattered over the ground like manure.
34 Wail and cry out in anguish, you rulers!
Roll in the dust, you who shepherd flocks of people![m]
The time for you to be slaughtered has come.
You will lie scattered and fallen like broken pieces of fine pottery.[n]
35 The leaders will not be able to run away and hide.[o]
The shepherds of the flocks will not be able to escape.
36 Listen to the cries of anguish of the leaders.
Listen to the wails of the shepherds of the flocks.
They are wailing because the Lord
is about to destroy their lands.[p]
37 Their peaceful dwelling places will be laid waste[q]
by the fierce anger of the Lord.[r]
38 The Lord is like a lion who has left his lair.[s]
So their lands will certainly[t] be laid waste
by the warfare of the oppressive nation[u]
and by the fierce anger of the Lord.”

Luke 19:45-48

Cleansing the Temple

45 Then[a] Jesus[b] entered the temple courts[c] and began to drive out those who were selling things there,[d] 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be a house of prayer,’[e] but you have turned it into a den[f] of robbers!”[g]

47 Jesus[h] was teaching daily in the temple courts. The chief priests and the experts in the law[i] and the prominent leaders among the people were seeking to assassinate[j] him, 48 but[k] they could not find a way to do it,[l] for all the people hung on his words.[m]
