Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
68 “(A)Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited us and accomplished (B)redemption for His people,
69 And has raised up a (C)horn of salvation for us
In the house of David (D)His servant—
70 (E)As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets (F)from of old—
71 [a](G)Salvation (H)from our enemies,
And from the hand of all who hate us;
72 (I)To show mercy toward our fathers,
(J)And to remember His holy covenant,
73 (K)The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,
74 To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 (L)In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.
76 “And you, child, will be called the (M)prophet of (N)the Most High;
For you will go on (O)before the Lord to (P)prepare His ways;
77 To give to His people the knowledge of salvation
[b]By (Q)the forgiveness of their sins,
78 Because of the tender mercy of our God,
With which (R)the Sunrise from on high will visit us,
79 (S)To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the (T)way of peace.”
Final Admonition
4 “[a]For behold, the day is coming, (A)burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be (B)chaff; and the day that is coming will (C)set them ablaze,” says the Lord of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.” 2 “But for you who [b]fear My name, the (D)sun of righteousness will rise with (E)healing in its wings; and you will go forth and (F)skip about like calves from the stall. 3 You will (G)tread down the wicked, for they will be (H)ashes under the soles of your feet (I)on the day [c]which I am preparing,” says the Lord of hosts.
4 “[d](J)Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.
5 “Behold, I am going to send you (K)Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. 6 He will [e](L)restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and (M)smite the land with a [f]curse.”
Ministry of the Twelve
9 (A)And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. 2 And He sent them out to (B)proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing. 3 And He said to them, “(C)Take nothing for your journey, (D)neither a staff, nor a [a]bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have [b]two tunics apiece. 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there [c]until you leave that city. 5 And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, (E)shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 Departing, they began going [d]throughout the villages, (F)preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
