Jeremiah 11:18-20

Plots against Jeremiah

18 Moreover, the Lord (A)made it known to me and I knew it;
Then You showed me their deeds.
19 But I was like a gentle (B)lamb led to the slaughter;
And I did not know that they had (C)devised plots against me, saying,
“Let us destroy the tree with its [a]fruit,
And (D)let us cut him off from the (E)land of the living,
That his (F)name be remembered no more.”
20 But, O Lord of hosts, who (G)judges righteously,
Who (H)tries the [b]feelings and the heart,
Let me see Your vengeance on them,
For to You have I [c]committed my cause.

Psalm 54

Prayer for Defense against Enemies.

For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A [a]Maskil of David, [b]when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, “Is not David hiding himself among us?”

54 Save me, O God, by (A)Your name,
And [c]vindicate me by (B)Your power.
(C)Hear my prayer, O God;
(D)Give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have (E)risen against me
And (F)violent men have (G)sought my [d]life;
They have (H)not set God before them. [e]Selah.

Behold, (I)God is my helper;
The Lord is [f]the (J)sustainer of my soul.
[g]He will (K)recompense the evil to [h]my foes;
[i](L)Destroy them (M)in Your [j]faithfulness.

[k](N)Willingly I will sacrifice to You;
I will give (O)thanks to Your name, O Lord, for it is good.
For [l]He has (P)delivered me from all [m]trouble,
And my eye has (Q)looked with satisfaction upon my enemies.

James 3:13-4:3

Wisdom from Above

13 Who among you is wise and understanding? (A)Let him show by his (B)good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter (C)jealousy and [a]selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against (D)the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down (E)from above, but is (F)earthly, [b](G)natural, (H)demonic. 16 For where (I)jealousy and [c]selfish ambition exist, [d]there is disorder and every evil thing. 17 But the wisdom (J)from above is first (K)pure, then (L)peaceable, (M)gentle, [e]reasonable, (N)full of mercy and good fruits, (O)unwavering, without (P)hypocrisy. 18 And the [f](Q)seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace [g]by those who make peace.

Things to Avoid

[h]What is the source of quarrels and (R)conflicts among you? [i]Is not the source your pleasures that wage (S)war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you (T)commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and (U)do not receive, because you ask [j]with wrong motives, so that you may spend it [k]on your pleasures.

James 4:7-8

(A)Submit therefore to God. (B)Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (C)Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (D)Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and (E)purify your hearts, you (F)double-minded.

Mark 9:30-37

Death and Resurrection Foretold

30 (A)From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it. 31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, (B)The Son of Man is to be [a]delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.” 32 But (C)they [b]did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.

33 (D)They came to Capernaum; and when He [c]was in (E)the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way (F)they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, (G)If anyone wants to be first, [d]he shall be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Taking a child, He set him [e]before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, 37 (H)Whoever receives [f]one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
