Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Praise the Name of the Lord
148 (A)Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord (B)from the heavens;
praise him (C)in the heights!
2 Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his (D)hosts!
3 Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars!
4 Praise him, you (E)highest heavens,
and you (F)waters above the heavens!
5 (G)Let them praise the name of the Lord!
For (H)he commanded and they were created.
6 And he (I)established them forever and ever;
he gave (J)a decree, and it shall not (K)pass away.[a]
7 Praise the Lord (L)from the earth,
you (M)great sea creatures and all deeps,
8 (N)fire and hail, (O)snow and mist,
(P)stormy wind (Q)fulfilling his word!
9 (R)Mountains and all hills,
(S)fruit trees and all (T)cedars!
10 (U)Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and (V)flying birds!
11 Kings of the earth and (W)all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
32 “And now, (A)O sons, listen to me:
(B)blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 (C)Hear instruction and be wise,
and do not neglect it.
34 (D)Blessed is the one who listens to me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting beside my doors.
35 For (E)whoever finds me (F)finds life
and (G)obtains favor from the Lord,
36 but he who fails to find me (H)injures himself;
all who (I)hate me (J)love death.”
19 (This he said to show (A)by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, (B)“Follow me.”
Jesus and the Beloved Apostle
20 Peter turned and saw (C)the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, (D)the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain (E)until (F)I come, what is that to you? (G)You follow me!” 23 So the saying spread abroad among (H)the brothers[a] that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple (I)who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and (J)we know (K)that his testimony is true.
