Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
Matthias Chosen(A)
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the [a]disciples (altogether the number (B)of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said, 16 “Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, (C)which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, (D)who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; 17 for (E)he was numbered with us and obtained a part in (F)this ministry.”
21 “Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of John to that day when (A)He was taken up from us, one of these must (B)become a witness with us of His resurrection.”
23 And they proposed two: Joseph called (C)Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, O Lord, (D)who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen 25 (E)to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.” 26 And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
BOOK ONE
Psalms 1–41
The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly
1 Blessed (A)is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
(B)Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But (C)his delight is in the law of the Lord,
(D)And in His law he [b]meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
(E)Planted by the [c]rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall (F)prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so,
But are (G)like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For (H)the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
9 If we receive (A)the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; (B)for this is the witness of [a]God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God (C)has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God (D)has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 (E)He who has the Son has [b]life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, [c]and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6 (A)“I have [a]manifested Your name to the men (B)whom You have given Me out of the world. (C)They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words (D)which You have given Me; and they have received them, (E)and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that (F)You sent Me.
9 “I pray for them. (G)I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and (H)Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 (I)Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, (J)keep[b] through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one (K)as We are. 12 While I was with them [c]in the world, (L)I kept them in [d]Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and (M)none of them is [e]lost (N)except the son of [f]perdition, (O)that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; (P)and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, (Q)just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but (R)that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 (S)Sanctify[g] them by Your truth. (T)Your word is truth. 18 (U)As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And (V)for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
