Psalm 148

Praise the Name of the Lord

148 (A)Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord (B)from the heavens;
    praise him (C)in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his (D)hosts!
Praise him, sun and moon,
    praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you (E)highest heavens,
    and you (F)waters above the heavens!
(G)Let them praise the name of the Lord!
    For (H)he commanded and they were created.
And he (I)established them for ever and ever;
    he gave (J)a decree, and it shall not (K)pass away.[a]
Praise the Lord (L)from the earth,
    you (M)great sea creatures and all deeps,
(N)fire and hail, (O)snow and mist,
    (P)stormy wind (Q)fulfilling his word!
(R)Mountains and all hills,
    (S)fruit trees and all (T)cedars!
10 (U)Beasts and all livestock,
    creeping things and (V)flying birds!
11 Kings of the earth and (W)all peoples,
    princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and maidens together,
    old men and children!
13 (X)Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for (Y)his name alone is exalted;
    (Z)his majesty is above earth and heaven.
14 He has (AA)raised up a horn for his people,
    (AB)praise for all his saints,
    for the people of Israel who are (AC)near to him.
(AD)Praise the Lord!

Proverbs 9:1-12

The Way of Wisdom

(A)Wisdom has built her house;
    she has hewn her (B)seven (C)pillars.
She has (D)slaughtered her beasts; she has (E)mixed her wine;
    she has also (F)set her table.
She has (G)sent out her young women to (H)call
    from (I)the highest places in the town,
(J)“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
    (K)To him who lacks sense she says,
“Come, (L)eat of my bread
    and (M)drink of (N)the wine I have mixed.
Leave (O)your simple ways,[a] and (P)live,
    (Q)and walk in the way of insight.”
Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
    and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
(R)Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
    (S)reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction[b] to a wise man, and he will be (T)still wiser;
    teach a righteous man, and he will (U)increase in learning.
10 (V)The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
    and (W)the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
11 For by me (X)your days will be multiplied,
    and years will be added to your life.
12 (Y)If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
    if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

2 Peter 3:8-13

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and (A)a thousand years as one day. (B)The Lord is not slow to fulfil his promise (C)as some count slowness, but (D)is patient towards you,[a] (E)not wishing that any should perish, but (F)that all should reach repentance. 10 But (G)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then (H)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and (I)the heavenly bodies[b] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.[c]

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, (J)what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 (K)waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and (L)the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for (M)new heavens and a new earth (N)in which righteousness dwells.
