Psalm 18:1-19

The Lord Praised for Rescuing David.

For the music director. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, [a]who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,

18 “I love You, Lord, (A)my strength.”
The Lord is (B)my rock and (C)my fortress and my (D)savior,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My (E)shield and the (F)horn of my salvation, my (G)stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is (H)worthy to be praised,
And I am (I)saved from my enemies.

The (J)ropes of death encompassed me,
And the (K)torrents of [b]destruction [c]terrified me.
The (L)ropes of [d]Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.
In my (M)distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice (N)from His temple,
And my (O)cry for help before Him came into His ears.

Then the (P)earth shook and quaked;
And the (Q)foundations of the mountains were trembling
And were shaken, because He was angry.
Smoke went up [e]out of His nostrils,
And (R)fire from His mouth was devouring;
Coals burned from it.
He also (S)bowed the heavens down low, and came down
With thick (T)darkness under His feet.
10 He rode on a (U)cherub and flew;
And He sped on the (V)wings of the wind.
11 He made (W)darkness His hiding place, (X)His [f]canopy around Him,
Darkness of waters, thick clouds.
12 From the (Y)brightness before Him passed His thick clouds,
Hailstones and (Z)coals of fire.
13 The Lord also (AA)thundered in the heavens,
And the Most High uttered His voice,
Hailstones and coals of fire.
14 He (AB)sent out His arrows, and scattered them,
And lightning flashes in abundance, and [g]routed them.
15 Then the (AC)channels of water appeared,
And the foundations of the world were exposed
By Your (AD)rebuke, Lord,
At the blast of the (AE)breath of Your nostrils.

16 He (AF)sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of (AG)many waters.
17 He (AH)saved me from my strong enemy,
And from those who hated me, for they were (AI)too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in (AJ)the day of my disaster,
But (AK)the Lord was my support.
19 He also brought me out into an (AL)open place;
He rescued me, because (AM)He delighted in me.

Job 36:24-33

24 “Remember that you are to (A)exalt His work,
Of which people have (B)sung.
25 All people have seen it;
Mankind looks at it from afar.
26 Behold, God is (C)exalted, and (D)we do not know Him;
The (E)number of His years is unsearchable.
27 For (F)He draws up the drops of water;
They distill rain from its [a]celestial stream,
28 Which clouds pour down;
They drip upon mankind abundantly.
29 Can anyone understand the (G)spreading of the clouds,
The (H)thundering of His [b]pavilion?
30 Behold, He spreads His [c]lightning about Him,
And He covers the depths of the sea.
31 For by them He (I)judges peoples;
He (J)gives food in abundance.
32 He covers His hands with the [d]lightning,
And (K)commands it to strike the target.
33 Its (L)thundering voice declares [e]His presence;
The livestock also, concerning what is coming up.

Job 37:14-24

14 “Listen to this, Job;
Stand and consider the wonders of God.
15 Do you know how God establishes them,
And makes the [a]lightning of His clouds to shine?
16 Do you know about the hovering of the clouds,
The (A)wonders of One who is (B)perfect in knowledge,
17 You whose garments are hot
When the land is still because of the south wind?
18 Can you, with Him, (C)spread out the skies,
Strong as a cast metal mirror?
19 Teach us what we are to say to Him;
We (D)cannot present our case because of darkness.
20 Shall it be told Him that I would speak?
[b]Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up?

21 “Now people do not see the light which is bright in the skies;
But the wind has passed and cleared them.
22 From the north comes golden splendor;
Around God is awesome majesty.
23 The Almighty—(E)we cannot find Him;
He is (F)exalted in power
And (G)He will not violate (H)justice and abundant righteousness.
24 Therefore people (I)fear Him;
He does not (J)regard any who are wise of heart.”

Matthew 8:23-27

Jesus Calms the Storm

23 (A)When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And behold, a [a]violent storm developed on the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep. 25 And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “(B)Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” 26 He *said to them, “Why are you [b]afraid, (C)you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and [c]it became perfectly calm. 27 The men were amazed, and said, “What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
