Psalm 146

Put Not Your Trust in Princes

146 (A)Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord (B)as long as I live;
    (C)I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
(D)Put not your trust in princes,
    (E)in a son of man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
When (G)his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
    on that very day his plans perish.
(H)Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose (I)hope is in the Lord his God,
(J)who made heaven and earth,
    the sea, and all that is in them,
(K)who keeps faith for ever;
    (L)who executes justice for the oppressed,
    (M)who gives food to the hungry.
(N)The Lord sets the prisoners free;
    (O)the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
(P)The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    (Q)the Lord loves the righteous.
(R)The Lord watches over the sojourners;
    (S)he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
    but (T)the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
10 (U)The Lord will reign for ever,
    your God, O Zion, to all generations.
(V)Praise the Lord!

Proverbs 28:11-28

11 A rich man is wise in his (A)own eyes,
    but a poor man who has understanding (B)will find him out.
12 When (C)the righteous triumph, there is great glory,
    but when (D)the wicked rise, people hide themselves.
13 Whoever (E)conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
    but he who (F)confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
14 Blessed is the one who (G)fears the Lord always,
    but whoever (H)hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
15 Like (I)a roaring lion or (J)a charging bear
    is (K)a wicked ruler over a poor people.
16 A ruler who (L)lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor,
    but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.
17 If one is burdened with (M)the blood of another,
    he will be a fugitive until death;[a]
    let no one help him.
18 (N)Whoever (O)walks in integrity will be delivered,
    but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall.
19 (P)Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
    but he who follows worthless pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
20 A faithful man will abound with blessings,
    but whoever hastens to be rich (Q)will not go unpunished.
21 To show (R)partiality is not good,
    but for (S)a piece of bread a man will do wrong.
22 A (T)stingy man[b] (U)hastens after wealth
    and does not know that (V)poverty will come upon him.
23 Whoever (W)rebukes a man will afterwards find more favour
    than (X)he who flatters with his tongue.
24 Whoever robs his father or his mother
    and says, “That is no transgression”,
    is (Y)a companion to a man who destroys.
25 A greedy man (Z)stirs up strife,
    but the one who trusts in the Lord will (AA)be enriched.
26 Whoever (AB)trusts in his own mind is a fool,
    but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.
27 Whoever (AC)gives to the poor will not want,
    but he who (AD)hides his eyes will get many a curse.
28 When (AE)the wicked rise, (AF)people hide themselves,
    but when they perish, the righteous increase.

Luke 9:43-48

43 And all were astonished at (A)the majesty of God.

Jesus Again Foretells His Death

(B)But while they were all marvelling at everything he was doing, Jesus[a] said (C)to his disciples, 44 “Let these words sink into your ears: (D)The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” 45 (E)But they did not understand this saying, and (F)it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

Who Is the Greatest?

46 (G)An argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest. 47 But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side 48 and said to them, (H)“Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and (I)whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For (J)he who is least among all of you is the one who is great.”
