Psalm 51:1-10

Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when (A)Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.

51 (B)Have mercy on me,[a] O God,
    according to your steadfast love;
according to your (C)abundant mercy
    (D)blot out my transgressions.
(E)Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
    and (F)cleanse me from my sin!
(G)For I know my transgressions,
    and my sin is ever before me.
(H)Against you, you only, have I sinned
    and done what is evil (I)in your sight,
(J)so that you may be justified in your words
    and blameless in your judgement.
Behold, (K)I was brought forth in iniquity,
    and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, you delight in truth in (L)the inward being,
    and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
Purge me (M)with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
    (N)wash me, and I shall be (O)whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
    (P)let the bones (Q)that you have broken rejoice.
(R)Hide your face from my sins,
    and (S)blot out all my iniquities.
10 (T)Create in me a (U)clean heart, O God,
    and (V)renew a right[b] spirit within me.

Genesis 8:20-9:7

God's Covenant with Noah

20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And when the Lord smelt (A)the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again (B)curse[a] the ground because of man, for (C)the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. (D)Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 (E)While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, (F)day and night, shall not cease.”

And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, (G)“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. (H)The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. (I)Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And (J)as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. But you shall not eat flesh with its (K)life, that is, its blood. And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: (L)from every beast I will require it and (M)from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man.

(N)“Whoever sheds the blood of man,
    by man shall his blood be shed,
(O)for God made man in his own image.

And you,[b] be fruitful and multiply, teem on the earth and multiply in it.”

John 10:11-21

11 (A)I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd (B)lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is (C)a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and (D)leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and (E)scatters them. 13 He flees because (F)he is a hired hand and (G)cares nothing for the sheep. 14 (H)I am the good shepherd. (I)I know my own and (J)my own know me, 15 (K)just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and (L)I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And (M)I have other sheep that are not of this fold. (N)I must bring them also, and (O)they will listen to my voice. So there will be (P)one flock, (Q)one shepherd. 17 (R)For this reason the Father loves me, (S)because (T)I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 (U)No one takes it from me, but (V)I lay it down (W)of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and (X)I have authority to take it up again. (Y)This charge I have received from my Father.”

19 (Z)There was again a division among the Jews because of these words. 20 Many of them said, (AA)“He has a demon, and (AB)is insane; why listen to him?” 21 Others said, “These are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon. (AC)Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”
