Psalm 72

Give the King Your Judgments

Of Solomon.

72 O God, give the king (A)Your judgments,
And (B)Your righteousness to the king’s son.
[a]May [b]he (C)render judgment to Your people with righteousness
And (D)Your [c]afflicted with justice.
Let the mountains lift up [d](E)peace to the people,
And the hills, in righteousness.
[e]May he (F)give justice to the [f]afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy,
And crush the oppressor.

[g]Let them fear You (G)while the sun endures,
And [h]as long as the moon, from generation to all generations.
[i]May he come down (H)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (I)showers that water the earth.
[j]May the (J)righteous flourish in his days,
And (K)abundance of peace until the moon is no more.

May he also have dominion (L)from sea to sea
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
[k]Let (M)the desert creatures (N)kneel before him,
And his enemies (O)lick the dust.
10 [l]Let the kings of (P)Tarshish and of the (Q)coastlands bring a present;
The kings of (R)Sheba and (S)Seba (T)offer tribute.
11 [m]And let all (U)kings bow down to him,
All (V)nations serve him.

12 For he will (W)deliver the needy when he cries for help,
The [n]afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
13 He will have (X)compassion on the poor and needy,
And the [o]lives of the needy he will save.
14 He will (Y)redeem their [p]life from oppression and violence,
And their blood will be (Z)precious in his sight;
15 So may he live! And may they give to him the (AA)gold of Sheba;
And let each pray for him continually;
Let each bless him all day long.

16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains;
May its fruit wave like the cedars of (AB)Lebanon;
And may those from the city blossom like (AC)vegetation of the earth.
17 May his (AD)name endure forever;
May his name [q]increase [r](AE)as long as the sun shines;
Let all nations [s](AF)be blessed in him;
(AG)Let all nations call him blessed.

18 (AH)Blessed be Yahweh God, the God of Israel,
Who alone (AI)works wondrous deeds.
19 And blessed be His (AJ)glorious name forever;
And may the whole (AK)earth be filled with His glory.
(AL)Amen, and Amen.

20 [t]The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are completed.

Genesis 28:10-22

Jacob’s Dream

10 Then Jacob departed from (A)Beersheba and went toward (B)Haran. 11 And he reached [a]a (C)certain place and spent the night there because the sun had set; and he took one of the stones of the place and put it [b]under his head and lay down in that place. 12 (D)Then he had a dream, and behold, a [c]ladder stood on the earth with its top touching heaven; and behold, (E)the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 And behold, (F)Yahweh stood [d]above it and said, “I am Yahweh, (G)the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give it (H)to you and to (I)your seed. 14 And your seed will also be like (J)the dust of the earth, and you will [e]spread out (K)to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and (L)in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 15 Behold, (M)I am with you and (N)will keep you wherever you go. And (O)I will bring you back to this land; for (P)I will not forsake you until I have done what I have [f]promised you.” 16 Then Jacob (Q)awoke from his sleep and said, “(R)Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “(S)How fearsome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

18 So Jacob rose early in the morning and took (T)the stone that he had put [g]under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on its top. 19 And he called the name of that place [h](U)Bethel; however, [i]previously the name of the city had been (V)Luz. 20 Then Jacob (W)made a vow, saying, “(X)If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey on which I am going, and will give me [j](Y)food to eat and garments to wear, 21 and (Z)I return to my father’s house in peace, (AA)then Yahweh will be my God. 22 Now this stone, which I have set up as a pillar, (AB)will be God’s house, and (AC)of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”

Hebrews 11:13-22

13 (A)All these died in faith, (B)without receiving the promises, but (C)having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and (D)having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. 15 And indeed if they had been remembering that country from which they went out, (E)they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But now, they aspire to a better country, that is, a (F)heavenly one. Therefore (G)God is not [a]ashamed to be (H)called their God, for (I)He prepared a city for them.

17 By faith (J)Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had (K)received the promises was offering up his only son, 18 to whom it was said, “(L)In Isaac your seed shall be called.” 19 [b]He considered that (M)God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which, [c](N)figuratively speaking, he also received him back. 20 By faith (O)Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even regarding things to come. 21 By faith (P)Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and (Q)worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff. 22 By faith (R)Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the exodus of the sons of Israel, and gave commands concerning his bones.
