Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 Although our (A)iniquities answer against us,
O Yahweh, act (B)for Your name’s sake!
Truly our (C)acts of faithlessness have been many;
We have (D)sinned against You.
8 O (E)Hope of Israel,
Its (F)Savior in (G)time of distress,
Why are You like a sojourner in the land
Or like a traveler who has pitched his tent to lodge for the night?
9 Why are You like a man confused,
Like a mighty man who (H)cannot save?
Yet (I)You are in our midst, O Yahweh,
And we are (J)called by Your name;
Do not leave us!”
10 Thus says Yahweh to this people, “Even so they have (K)loved to wander; they have not (L)kept their feet in check. Therefore Yahweh does (M)not accept them; now He will (N)remember their iniquity and punish their sins.”
19 Have You completely (A)rejected Judah?
Or [a]have You loathed Zion?
Why have You stricken us so that (B)there is no healing for us?
We (C)hoped for peace, but there was no good;
And for a time of healing, but behold, terror!
20 We (D)know our wickedness, O Yahweh,
The iniquity of our fathers, for (E)we have sinned against You.
21 Do not [b]despise us, (F)for Your own name’s sake;
Do not disgrace the (G)throne of Your glory;
Remember and do not break Your covenant with us.
22 Are there any among the [c](H)idols of the nations who (I)give rain?
Or can the heavens give showers?
Is it not You, O Yahweh our God?
Therefore we [d](J)hope in You,
For You are the one who has done all these things.
Blessed Is the Man Who Trusts in You
For the choir director. According to the [a]Gittith. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Yahweh of hosts!
2 My (B)soul has longed and even [b]fainted for the courts of Yahweh;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
3 Even the bird has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she sets her young,
At Your (D)altars, O Yahweh of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
4 How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [c]Selah.
5 How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [d]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
6 Passing through the valley of [e]Baca they make it a [f]spring;
The (J)early rain also wraps it up with blessings.
7 They (K)go from strength to strength,
[g]Each one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.
6 For I am already being (A)poured out as a drink offering, and the time of (B)my departure has come. 7 (C)I have fought the good fight, I have finished (D)the course, I have kept (E)the faith. 8 In the future there (F)is laid up for me (G)the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on (H)that day, and not only to me, but also to (I)all who have loved His (J)appearing.
16 At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me. (A)May it not be counted against them. 17 But the Lord stood with me and (B)strengthened me, so that through me (C)the preaching might be (D)fulfilled, and that all (E)the Gentiles might hear. And I was (F)rescued out of (G)the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will (H)save me unto His (I)heavenly kingdom; (J)to [a]Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
9 And He also told this parable to some people who (A)trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and (B)viewed others with contempt: 10 “Two men (C)went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee (D)stood and was praying these things to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I (E)fast twice a week; I (F)pay tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, (G)standing some distance away, (H)was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but (I)was [a]beating his chest, saying, ‘God, be [b]merciful to me, the sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other, (J)for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
