Psalm 57

Let Your Glory Be Above All the Earth

For the choir director. [a]Al-tashheth. Of David. A [b]Mikhtam. [c]When he fled from Saul in the cave.

57 Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,
For my soul (A)takes refuge in You;
And in the (B)shadow of Your wings I will take refuge
Until destruction (C)passes by.
I will call to God Most High,
To God who (D)accomplishes all things for me.
He will (E)send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches him who [d](F)tramples upon me. [e]Selah.
God will send His (G)lovingkindness and His [f]truth.

My soul is among (H)lions;
I am lying down among those who breathe forth fire,
Sons of men whose (I)teeth are spears and arrows
And their (J)tongue a sharp sword.
(K)Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.
They have [g]set a (L)net for my steps;
My soul is (M)bowed down;
They (N)dug a pit before me;
They themselves have (O)fallen into the midst of it. Selah.

(P)My (Q)heart is set, O God, my heart is set;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
Awake, (R)my glory!
Awake, (S)harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
(T)I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to You among the [h]nations.
10 For Your (U)lovingkindness is great to the heavens
And Your [i]truth to the skies.
11 (V)Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.

1 Samuel 25:36-42

36 Then Abigail came to Nabal, and behold, he was holding (A)a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. And Nabal’s heart was merry within him, (B)for he was very drunk; so (C)she did not tell him anything small or great until the morning light. 37 But in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him so that he became as a stone. 38 Now it happened that about ten days later, (D)Yahweh smote Nabal, and he died.

Abigail Becomes David’s Wife

39 Then David heard that Nabal was dead, so he said, “Blessed be Yahweh, who has (E)pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and (F)has kept back His servant from evil. Yahweh has also returned the evil of Nabal on his own head.” Then David sent [a](G)a proposal to Abigail, to take her as his wife. 40 Then the servants of David came to Abigail at Carmel and spoke to her, saying, “David has sent us to you to take you as his wife.” 41 And she arose (H)and bowed with her [b]face to the ground and said, “Behold, your maidservant is a servant-woman (I)to wash the feet of my lord’s servants.” 42 Then (J)Abigail hurried and arose, and she rode on a donkey, with her five young women who [c]went about with her; and she went after the messengers of David and became his wife.

Luke 22:39-46

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

39 (A)And He came out and went (B)as was His custom to (C)the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him. 40 (D)Now when He arrived at the place, He said to them, (E)Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” 41 And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He (F)knelt down and began to pray, 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this (G)cup from Me, (H)yet not My will, but Yours be done.” 43 [a]Now an (I)angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. 44 And (J)being in agony He was praying very fervently, and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. 45 And when He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, 46 and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise up and (K)pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
